Hi There, My great grandmother was Elizabeth Brookes born 1895 Kings Norton, Worcestershire. She has no middle name in marriage or death records. Does this mean she had no middle name? Please help Regards Richard

Hi Richard, It does look like she didn't have a middle name. I found a September Qtr 1895 Elizabeth Brookes Kings N 6C 427. This entry on FreeBMD just states Elizabeth Brookes, I would have thought if there was another name or initial it would be there......the only other thing to make sure is to send for her birth certificate. Regards Vera

Usually they would record a middle name or at least the initial on the birth certificate. If the freeBMD index shows no middle initial then it's likely there was no middle initial on the birth cert, I would think you can make a fairly safe assumption that she wasn't given one. (Free BMD transcribe the original indexes exactly as what is written on the original images) Liz
