	Romany no - there is no link, deliberately, between a birth cert and an adoption cert, nor between birth parents and adoptive parents. what you have found is most probably the registration of an illegitimate child, where the father was present at registration - the only way an unmarried father can (legally!) be recorded on a cert. OC

Member Since: March 2005 Posts: 5,200 Send Message	A child in my tree is registered under two different surnames; (although the mothers maiden name is the same on both entries). Why would this be? I was thinking, if the child was to be put up for adoption, would it be reg'd under both the biological fathers name, and also that of the adoptive family? Thanks.

	Romany It could also mean she had been married twice...born as Smith, married Brown but now known as Jones... OC
