Could you reply re the 1841 family please? Update, I now see you have duplicated this request again and have received the same info as we gave earlier.

It would have been helpful if we had known all the information you already had. I take it you have discounted the family I found in 1841 being his parents then. You already had him as an apprentice is 1841 aswell?

Thank you I do have this information. Gail

Yes the Alexander I found on the 1841 seemed a possible father for your Alexander. I said that the wife Mary COULD be Charlotte, possibly the mother of Alexander. There is also a child Charlotte staying with a family called Hills who could be relatives. I have added that info there too. I also put your Alexander on there in 1841 living with a family locally and occupation of tailoring apprentice.

I presume you have this? Surname First name(s) District Vol Page -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriages Dec 1849 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HEPBURN Alexander John Aston 16 391 Parslow Susannah Aston 16 391 If you have got/get this marriage certificate, it might give you a line on Alexander's father, which could help elad back. Sylvia

Thank you Sylvia you do have the correct Charlotte Hepburn on the 1841 Census. My focus is on Charlotte Hepburn. Thanks to all for looking. Gail

Gail ........... you misread that last family by Heather .................. it's from the 1841 Census, so it is not Alexander the tailor, but could it be Alexander's father?????????????????????????????

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 25 May 2007 16:45

I wonder if this is your Charlotte? Surname First name(s) Age District Vol Page -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Deaths Dec 1874 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HEPBURN Charlotte 71 Islington 1b 196 Year of birth according to this would be about 1803 ..... correct range. Sylvia

No sorry Heather the last message you've added is not my Alexander and his family. Not to confuse anyone. He remained a tailor all his life and moved to Aston/Birmingham by 1851 with his wife Susannah. Also Charlotte Hepburn. Gail

Can't find any of them ........... Alexander, Susannah or Charlotte ..... on the 1861!

I don't know what the relationship was with Alexander be it mother, aunt or sister. The word visitor on the 1851 census is inconclusive. Would someone check the 1861 census please? Thanks Gail

Heather

Heather Report 25 May 2007 16:33

Hve you not read any of my 1841 stuff above?

Out of interest, looks like Alexander living with a family whilst doing a tailoring apprenticeship: Alexander Hipburn Age: 15 Estimated birth year: abt 1826 Gender: Male Where born: Middlesex, England Civil parish: St James Clerkenwell Hundred: Ossulstone (Finsbury Division) County/Island: Middlesex Country: England Street address: Occupation: View image Registration district: Clerkenwell Sub-registration district: Amwell Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age Alexander Hipburn 15 Richd Sparks 25 Richd Sparks 1 Sarah Sparks 25 I am a bit concerned about a Charlotte Hepburn apparently only 8 years old and living on her own! LOL, wonder if thats an enumerators mistake - just a sec, will get the record. Nope, the age is right, she is actually living with a Hill family - I think this is very likely Alexander's sister - right place and age and name - but wheres mum and dad got to? Name: Charlotte Hepburn Age: 8 Estimated birth year: abt 1833 Gender: Female Where born: Middlesex, England Civil parish: St Mary Islington East Hundred: Ossulstone (Finsbury Division) County/Island: Middlesex Country: England Street address: Occupation: View image Registration district: Islington Sub-registration district: Islington East But just to confuse us: This chaps occupation is Ladpidary: Name: Alexander Hepburn Age: 35 Estimated birth year: abt 1806 Gender: Male Where born: Middlesex, England Civil parish: St James Clerkenwell Hundred: Ossulstone (Finsbury Division) County/Island: Middlesex Country: England Street address: Occupation: View image Registration district: Clerkenwell Sub-registration district: St James Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age Agnes Hepburn 6 Alexander Hepburn 35 Eliza Hepburn 9 Jane Hepburn 3 Mary Hepburn 30 Mary Hepburn 11 So assuming wife Mary isnt really Charlotte where is she and why is the 8 year old Charlotte living with the Hills family? She could of course just be visiting and the Hills are related and this Mary is your Charlotte after all.

There's no Charlotte Hepburn on the 41 census that is anywhere close in age. Do you suppose she wasn't married yet? Margaret

1841 wont show her relationship - did the 1851 not do so?

Pheobe

Pheobe Report 25 May 2007 16:16

My mystery lady is a Charlotte Hepburn and I'm seeking her in the 1841 census born London abt. 1805. I know that she appeared on the 1851 census in Birmingham with Alexander and Susannah Hepburn. I'm trying to establish her relationship with the rest of my family. Can anyone help please? Thanks, Gail

ErikaH Report 25 May 2007 16:12

What does 1851 say about the relationship? Is Hepburn her married name? Or was she unmarried in 1851? Reg
