I'm certain it is Mary-Ann Sexton. Just found another member with a Mary Sexton married to William Martin with the same places of birth and years of birth. Have requested to see her tree so fingers crossed!

There's a Harry Beckingham MARTIN b. Richmond, Surrey DEC 1881 2a 375. If this is the right one, Beckingham may be a surname in the family but the certificate is needed.

Thanks so much, that is so helpful! The fact she is recorded as Mary A. rather than Mary Ann on the census makes me inclined to think that she was Mary A. Sexton, as that's how she's recorded there. Still - very young to get married though!

My date of birth record must have been wrong!! This has got to be her, yet if she was 35 in 1881 she must have been born 1846!! This story just got blown wide open people LOL!!!

Hi, I'm having a terrible time at the moment trying to find out one of my ancestor's maiden name. Everyone with her on their tree has ground to a halt on this entry and it's driving me mad! Name: Mary Ann Surname?? Year of birth - 1852 (possibly) Place of Birth - Frittenden, Kent Date of death - unknown Spouse: William Martin Year of birth - 1847 Place of birth - Hawkhurst, Kent All of their children except one were born in Cranbrook, Kent, and are as follows: William Martin b.1876 Charles Martin b.1874 Harry Martin b.1881 (Richmond, Surrey) Arthur Martin (I) b.1869 Nellie Martin b.1886 James Martin b.1871 Joseph Martin b. 1876 Arthur Martin (II) b.1890 Alfred Martin b.1893 Mary-Ann Martin b.1878 So far I found that there appears to be an awful lot of William Martins in sleepy little Cranbrook, and the same names do crop up persistantly. I did find a reference to a marriage between William Martin and Mary-Ann Sexton in Cranbrook, Dec 1866 - but she'd only have been 14/15 - would that have been legal? I found Nellie's marriage certificate (I think - Cranbrook, Mar 1915) and it gives the name 'Weeks' on it as well. Was that her married name, or her mother's maiden name? It isn't clear. The thing is, whenever I do cross-reference things everything becomes unravelled! I'm wondering if I should order Nellie's marriage certificate or one of the children's birth certificates to verify them but even in the small village there appears to be lots of people with the same name. Anyone with any ideas?
