Thanks Georgina - I thought it did. I looks as though the enumerator wrote Middlesex first, then changed his mind and corrected to Surrey, hence in the last column. I only queried it because I wondered about Sarah Elizabeth's health. |

I have my husband's Swindell branch on the 1871 census in St Pancras: Thomas Swindell 63 Licensed victualler (out of business) Mary 55 Charles H son 17 Elizabeth daughter 13 Elizabeth is actually Sarah Elizabeth, born Jun qr 1857. She died in Jun qr 1871, so only survived this census for a brief time. Could someone please tell me what the entry in the last column is (usually reserved for deaf and dumb, blind etc. I thought it was Surrey - is Vauxhall in Middlesex or Surrey - I thought the latter because it is south of the river. Or is it something regarding Elizabeth's health? |
