Hi Venetia The birth registration (and there is cenus information) comes from Ancestry and you can download the medal card for £3.50 from the National Archives site, but they can be very limited in the information they give. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/medals.asp#read Let me know if you want me to follow up anything and I will have a look for you, sadly I am a bit too far away from Grimsby to do a look up there, but I can also ask in Lincoln Archives if they hold any other records - such as Court proceedings. I am going to bed now but I will check the thread in the morning. Gail.

I know this does not answer your question, but if this is the same man it does seem he joined up for the army. Percy Gordon Ridlington... Birth Reference Percy Gordon Ridlington, 1885, Q2, Caistor, Lincolnshire, 7a 631 If this is him he may be the man who's medal card is on the National Archives Site:- Medal card of Percy Ridlington, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, Reg No. 41338, Private and also this death on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Lance Corporal P G Ridlington,Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers 1st Bn. died, 22/08/1918, service No. 41338 MONT NOIR MILITARY CEMETERY, ST. JANS-CAPPEL You could try and find some newspaper reports of the time and see if that mentioned the prison he was sent to. Once you know which prison he was in then, as suggested, you can ask the local archive office if any records survive. I am in Lincoln and there are some Archived Newspapers in Lincoln Library, but I don't know if the events would have made the Lincoln papers. If you can be any more specific regarding dates I can have a look next time I go. Grimsby Library or Archives may hold some old newspapers so may be worth contacting. Gail.

The prison records will most likely be held either at the prison itself or at the County Records Office for that area, try contacting them. Do you know which prison he was sent to? Sam x
