Freebmd for name search bmd and ancestry (which you have access to) for the complete bmd index. Freebmd is only partially complete as its an on going volunteer project (bless them all).

ok... i've got the family story....... the secret.......lol the william jones who had my grand mother has the middle name barnes because his mum was with someone (before jones) with the name of barnes... apparently they had a child together. She was in service at the time, and when this man died, she was left money and was allowed to collect rent from an exhibition center. all we know is that his family were connected to the family that made woodbines cigarettes... She gave all her children the middle name barnes in honer to his commitment to her and her child..... thanks to everyone whoi helped me look up all these names.....

Hi Anis Are you sure they are double barrel names? it was very common to give at least one child the mother's maiden name as a middle name, or maybe even a grandparent's surname as middle name. I have one family who used this method of naming their children for generations, and very useful it was too!!!! The first name of your double barrel name could be a mojor clue in finding previous generations. Judith
