Hi Karen, All I know is Marry Carney the daughter came over with her two sisters only when she was 17, so that would be about 1896. As far as I know the parents stayed in Ireland, I thought they came from Newry County Down but my cousin said it was Belfast. As far as I know when Mary married in Dundee in 1903 her parents were not at the wedding. Also I think she just came to Dundee either just before or just after the 1901 census, I can't find her anywhere in Scotland in any other cenusus. Betty

Betty Is it possible in 1901 that your John would have been in Newry? JohnCarney Newry Stream Street Newry 1901_Census Newry North Urban I don't think its available on-line and I think all the records are in Belfast. You can pay for a search to be done and it should list the other householders. With kind regards Karen

Hi again Karen, Yeeeees is those Carney's again, found out last night from a cousin who is quite a bit older than me . My Grandmother actually lived with her family as the mother died young and my gran helped bring up the 4 children as there father had to work. She said my gran came from Belfast and came to Scotland by boat with her two sisters (names unknown) to Glasgow when she was 17, she met my grandfather from Dundee who was working there in the mines. He later took her to Dundee with him and they married in 1903. She also said my grandmothers father was a hairdresser (as you said) but his brothers were butchers. Betty

Betty These your Carney's again? I know its not your one but can't help feeling this Carney is connected somewhere. Location is Belfast and the occupation is hairdresser! http://www.findagrave(.)com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=carney&GSbyrel=all&GSdyrel=all&GScntry=35&GSob=n&GRid=18490812& If I come across any other likely suspects I'll let you know.
