Hi there Searching for records on my grandfather, EDWARD (TED) THOMAS COLLINS - Born c 1879. He was of Irish descent but was born in Brighton. He served in South Africa in the Anglo Boer War 1899 - 1903 for the Royal Engineers but I don't have his military number. My grandmother, Matilda Grace Maynard, who was also born in Brighton and was a schoolmistress at Brentwood, sailed to Durban, Port Natal, RSA in 1903 to join him and they were married in RSA. He took his discharge from the Royal Engineers in SA but re-enlisted during WW1, serving in France. He never returned to SA and I'm not sure whether he died during WW1. Rumour has it that he met a French girl, deserted from the army, and they subsequently had twins. Not sure whether there is any truth in this story as it's hearsay. If any one can help me track his records I'd be more than grateful. Just before my mom died, all the family documents she had were stored in a cabinet which was stolen resulting in lost trails. Waiting with bated breath JOAN - Cape Town, RSA
