Does anyone have information regarding Jack Nicholson b.1920 in Thurnscon I think. Sister Margaret lives in Woodlands, Doncaster. Dad Bernard married a Granger/Grainger. Jack married Mary (Burns) in 1944. Mary b.June 1921. Please help it would make my Mum so happy if I could build a family tree for her. New to this and finding it really frustrating. Kind Regards Kieren

Kieren, it's often difficult closer to the present (especially if you have little information) because official documents are not easily available. Once you get to the early 1900s it becomes much easier with BMD (births, marriages & deaths) indexes online & census information to back them up. Nearer to your mother's generation you may have to buy certificates so you are sure of parentage & following the right family. If you buy the certificate noted above then you will get the occupation of the groom (at least) & the couple's father's names & occupations. That helps you get back further. Like any other hobby it is going to cost you time, effort & money but it is really exciting & so satisfying when you break through a genealogical brick wall. You're embarking on a lifetime obsession here - so be warned! Have fun, Ozi.
