Paul have checked to the end of 1920, but cannot find any more children with mmn West or Field. Suspect maybe more after then, but Ancestry so slow its painful.

Hi Keith How do you check parents names to avoid getting the wrong cert. Paul

KeithInFujairah

KeithInFujairah Report 5 May 2007 20:55

Paul, when you order the certs, give the mothers or fathers name or both as a checking point, if the cert does not have the name as a parent, they will not send the cert. The GRO will refund £4 if the checking point fails. However, if you order from the local records office, if the parents names are incorrect, they will refund the full cost of the cert.

Hi Paul, As someone said previously, on Ancestry you need to go to the complete BMDs in the top section, put in your name, the year and quarter, then on the search results click view image and you will find yourself. Jennifer

Paul Report 5 May 2007 20:25

Hi Rebekah Thanks for your offer, I am looking for children of Charles Horace Ives and Eva West also Sydney Aaron Ives and Kate Violet Field, both couples married in 1914. Thanks Paul

Just a quick note - even when you find the children from the 1914 marriage - using wife's maiden name - you will only ever be sure they are all the same family by sending off for the certs - especially if the names are reasonably common - so don't assume all the ones that you find ARE related. With a rarer name you are more likely to be fairly sure. Remember Rule No. 1 - 'Never Assume'. Jill

Oh Mhairi - didn't read the whole of your earlier message properly and basically repeated what you'd already said to Paul! Sorry about that! Jill

Paul Report 5 May 2007 20:12

Hi Mhairi I will try that, looks like that will keep me busy for a while. Paul

Hi Paul Births can be registered up to 6 weeks after the birth itself - and sometimes later! So check the quarter after the one you think it should be in. My son was born end of December but his birth was not registered until beg Jan so he shows in the Mar quarter. Marriages usually show in the same quarter - but if a marriage happens at the very end of Dec, Mar, Jun or Sep they might not show until the next quarter either. If you cannot find the page that you know ought to be there it's probably because it's been added using an additional name at the end of the page (added in pen and ink to the typed list) and therefore the page you want is out of synch. Try searching for a name very close to the one you are after and then use the little green arrows at the top of the page to go to the one you need. It makes sense when you try it. Good luck! Jill

Jennifer Report 5 May 2007 20:05

Are you Paul Robert born Doncaster, December quarter or Paul James born Bedford in the September quarter? Jennifer

Paul

Paul Report 5 May 2007 20:05

Hi Jill I have tried that but there seems to be a few missing, I can find my son born in 2004 but not me born in 1977, I also can't find my marriage or my parents marriage. Paul

Mhairi Queen of Scots Report 5 May 2007 20:01

You can look at the indexs on ancestry for free, you may have to register for a free account though http://www.ancestry*co*uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx Its the one at the top of that page you need. You'll have to search quarter by quarter using the surname, but the mothers maiden name will be down as well so that should help...unless its a common name. Even then you cant really guarantee its the children from that marriage unless you get the certs. As to the other question i'm not sure, perhaps someone else will know the answer Hope that helps Mhairi
