i am interested in my family tree as alot of my relatives have all died when i was a young age, my dad lost his parents when he was 27 so has no extended family really, i would like to research and show him part of his history. i am trying to research my 'birks' side of the family who all seem to originate from stoke on trent, who apart from my dad and his brother he has no knowledge with any living relatives. And does not recall many relatives. if any of these names ring a bell, please get in touch, Paul Birks 1967 Mark Birks 1965/66 Barbara Birks (maiden name Boden) 1948 died 1993? Graham Birks 1946 died 1997? i know that barbara parents were Tommy (or Thomas?) Boden 1925? and Elizabeth boden (maiden name brayford)1926? sister Ivy Grahams parents were Olive Birks (maiden name Shipley?) 1915? and Albert Birks 1914? i also know Graham had a few brothers and a few step siblings, of the brothers i know of there is John Birks (born Julian birks?) died 1990? who was older and Barry Birks who was also older. if any one could help i would be very greatful as i have no relatives to ask for help

Hi Kath Thanks for the help on the Jones line - the only thing with the Griffin marriage is I would have expected Ann's surname to be Jones not Gilbert. Have you had chance to do any digging for Benjamin Williams for me as yet? Julie

Kathryn Report 30 Apr 2007 09:15

********JULIE****** Hiya Julie, I think youve hit the nail on the head ,what you have found all seems to fit with Griffin & Anns wedding - this is the marriage i found. I think that the Kingswinford marriage is more probable in this case - purely because of the year that their child was born. Good luck in filling in more gaps. Kath

Hi Kathryn, I think that this might be a long shot but here goes - Is there anything on John Blycke and Abigail Mebray ( I don't think that is the correct interpretation of her surname) who married 25th January 1695 in Kinver, Staffs. They had a daughter Abigail who was baptised in 1697 also at Kinver Thanks for the offer Seaham Lass

Hi Kath Thanks for that. The only census I have found Henry on was the 1851 I listed for you. I agree with you about him dying after this census however believe it was before the 1861 as I have Eliza living by herself listed as a widow in Wednesbury, parish of St Bartholomew - ties up with your info of her living with her daughter and family in the same town - was this on the 1871? I have found a marriage for a Griffin Chapman however he married a Ann Gilbert. Do you think this is the same as you discovered? West Midlands Marriage indexes for the years: 1857 Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference CHAPMAN Griffin GILBERT Ann Wednesbury, St John Sandwell 34/1/151 I've done some digging about on the IGI and found the birth of a Henry Jones 4/3/1799 and his christening 3/10/1804 Willenhall, Stafford parents James Jones and Hannah. Not sure if this the correct one. If his parents were James and Hannah I have found 2 possible marriages for them - James Jones and Hannah Foster 12/4/1789 Darlaston James Jones and Hannah Partridge 18/4/1786 Kingswinford Also found a marriage between Henry Jones and Eliza Heath 2/8/1830 Wolstanton If this is correct then I have found a possible christening for Eliza 19/12/1814 Hanley, Stafford parents George Heath and Martha. If this is correct then possible marriage for George and Martha 1/8/1813 Norton In The Moors, Stafford. Finally 2 possible births for Martha Rigby - Martha Rigby christening 20/1/1788 Stoke on Trent parents William Rigby and Sarah Lightfoot Martha Rigby christening 24/12/1780 All Saints Dilhorne, Stafford parents Joseph Rigby and Martha. I am not sure of the gegraphy to see if any of these might fit - what do you think? I'll keep checking to see if you can find out anything about the others. Julie
