♥Betty Boo from Dundee♥ Report 13 Apr 2007 20:21

I'm Steven McDonald and I am a New York City Police Officer who was shot in the line of duty in Central Park, New York in 1986. I am partly of Scottish ancestry and I would like to learn more about those family roots. I'm interested in finding information on the Walker family of Dundee. I can trace back William Walker (born Panbride, Forfarshire in 1803) and his wife Janet (Gibson?) (born Monikie, Angus in 1803). William and Janet may have had about seven children, all born in Dundee: Susan (1826), Ann (1827), David (1830), Agnes (1832), Mary (1834), Janet/Jessie (1836) and William (1839) In the 1851 Scottish census William a carver and his family are listed as living at 36 Buckelmaker Wynd, Dundee. William and Janet's son David Walker, went to England and eventually became the Superintendent at Kings College, London, according to the 1881 UK census. He married Emma (last name possibly Given) and had seven son's: William, Alfred, Daniel, Frank, Ernest, Frederick and Percy. By 1890, David had remarried to Annie Mackie, of Scotland and they had a daughter, Catherine, born about 1891. (Yes David was a father again at 61). In the 1901 UK census David and Annie and their daughter were living on Wilberforce Road London. At least one of David's sons William emigrated to New York in the mid - 1880's. He is my great-grandfather. If anyone can provide information on this Walker family I would be very happy to hear from you. Editors note:- [Steven McDonald was shot by one of three young men whom he'd stopped for questioning.Paralysed from the neck down, he has appeared on every major chat show on US television, and is the subject of countless articles, including a cover story in the Reader's Digest. He has also been chosen as Man Of The Year and Father Of The Year by a dozen organizations, and was congratulated by the president when he became the father of a son.]
