I am finally biting the bullet and researching my paternal grandmothers line after 12 years! My paternal grandmother Lilian Alice Maud Brown was born 15th Sept 1901 at 128 Clive Road, Kingston, Portsmouth to John James Brown and Caroline Taylor. (not at that address on 1901 census), fathers occupation given as town postman. I have the marriage certificate for John and Caroline, 27th Mar 1899 at Emsworth, county of Southampton. John is given as age 26, batchelor, Corporal Royal Irish Rifles (no service number), from Gosport, father Robert Steward Forbes Brown late Bandmaster. Caroline is given as age 26, Spinster from Emsworth, father George Taylor, greengrocer. Witnesss’s were Henry Taylor and Nellie Taylor, possibly siblings? I am unable to find any of them on the 1901 census, I appreciate that John Brown may be serving away from home on census night, but where are the others? Being fairly common names, and no idea where they originated I’m stuck, anyone any ideas? Keith
