My apologies Forget the Jane Smith on the 1901 census she was staying with Georgina Robey abt 1884 Robins Hoods Bay, Yorkshire, England Wife Witton le Wear Durham Joseph Robey abt 1881 Crook, Durham, England Head Witton le Wear Durham I should have checked the image !! Apologies

The 1901 posted earlier has Jane Smith as mother-in-law. So the Joseph Smith I found in 1871 was not the right one. Or are we looking at 2 different Joseph Smiths! Back to the search again! (switching off for a while - very black clouds coming this way, with thunder etc)

Gail Report 18 Aug 2006 11:42

Thanks anyway Elaine. Smith is such a common name. Gail

Have just realised (by checking the 1861/1871 census) that Thomas b c1829 was born in Northumberland. There are 21 possibilities in Northumberland - and together with the 30+ possibilities in Durham it is somewhat of an impossible task for me at the moment! Maybe someone else will feel strong enough to do the search for you - sorry I cannot help.

Gail Report 18 Aug 2006 11:16

His father is a Thomas as well and is a pitman. Gail

Elaine

Elaine Report 18 Aug 2006 11:11

Looking at the 1861 and 1871 census that have been found it would appear that Thomas was born c 1829. Searching the 1841 census for Thomas Smith b 1829 +/- 2 years in Durham - gives 30 possibilities. Without his father´s name it is impossible to find the right one!

You say that Thomas Smith married Mary Davison in 1851 - do you have their marriage certificate. You will really need Thomas´s father´s name and occupation if you have any chance of finding them successfully on the 1841.

The Broadley family is correct. The smith family were found for 1861/71 have been found. I would like the 1841 fo Thomas Smith if Possible. Gail

Hi Elaine, Yes she was born in Coundon. And I have about her and her father who is Richard Rushton. It is the smith lot that are proving troublesome. Thanks Gail
