Morning. im searching for any info on a BARBARA UDEN born c1844 in Ash, Kent. I have her on 1871 census with her husband James Bennett in Cornwall, and then later in Norfolk with husband and children. I know her father was Henry. Any help would be great. thanks

Morning elaine - i have the marriage cert her full name was Barbara Ellen Uden and her father was Henry - occupation Labourer. On some census - she is down as Barbara helen and birth place as Oak, Kent.

Thats a possible elaine - on marriage cert it definately looks like UDEN - and after checking its even clearer on daughters birth cert - so now im not so sure lol

Does the address on the marrige certificate or names of witnesses help at all ?

not really unfortunately they married in Plymouth - james was in army and they married there. witnesses were Frederick James Edwards and Mary Margaret Holmansyard (not sure on that one lol)

The Eaden/Uden confusion could have been down to a local accent or an error on enumerators part.

Thats looking quite good elaine - ive already had several names wrongly transcribed by emunerators so nothing would surprise me anymore.

This looks like her birth, on FreeBMD: Name: Barbara Euden Year of Registration: 1844 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun District: Eastry County: Kent Volume: 5 Page: 150 The 1851 image also looks like Euden rather than Eaden. Richard :)

Am having trouble finding any of the 1851 family in the 1861 census. When did Barbara marry ?

well done richard. they married in 1869 - then moved up to norwich in the mid 70s - from 1871 i have them together on census.

thinking laterally now - always wondered how barbara and james met - he could have served down in Deal in kent during his army time and they may have met there???? or am i clutching at straws again lol
