jools yes 1871 cencus i think its him Houghton Le Spring Co Durham ,a travelling auctioneer living in caraven says he was born Kendal thats all the cencus ive got,not sure about it catch you later carol

Carol have you found John 1837 on any census?? I've just looked for Lovett births in 10b from 1858 to 1860 and there's only one (to a woman called Hannah in Carlisle). I think you're going to have to do this in stages. Get the MC, that will give an age (hopefully not the unhelpful 'of full age') as I'm not convinced he was born 1837. Also hopefully it will give a father. And the witnesses may be of help. Then you'll have to work back once you have the MC

that seems right and you ve also got page and vol number i did nt have that ,i could get marriage cert with that now ,but it wont help me find mother i d have to find who his father john married , i ve been glad of your help i was getting a bit confused with it all . carol

i think it was ancestry where i picked it up and he was a john lovett married 1858( just found paper details) Mary Ord born 1837same as john

He married as LOVETT From Freebmd Marriages Mar 1858 >>>Lovett John Kendal 10b 683 >>>Ord Mary Kendal 10b 683 Philipson Deborah Kendal 10b 683 Taylor John Couns_waite Kendal 10b 683 HOWEVER, I've not found him as lovett (or mistranscribed) yet on 1861 (but I have found the john taylor above on 1861 and his wife is deborah, so that confirms john lovett married mary ord) Me thinks you need to spend £7 and get the MC so you know who his dad was.

hi i have no MC for 1858 marriage but know he married in Kendal in 1858 .but will have to check through this mountain of papers to find details ,if i could find marriage i would be certain i was on right trail,better still the 1837 birth of him would get me his mother . thanks again for your help Carol

Carol - did the John who married 1858 in Kendal marry as Storey or Lovett? Have you got his marriage certificate? Have you got him on 1861 census?

Carol - do you have the MC from ?1858? for when John 1837 got married? If so, is there anything in father's name? It's just I can find John storey's born 1837ish but they have head of William and there is a big zero for lovett around the same time (which has excellent potential for being gloriously mistranscribed)

Just trying to get this straight in my head. In 1803 John STOREY married Mary LOVETT. Mary already had a daughter called Dorothy LOVETT and a son called John LOVETT. They were born some time before 1803. John LOVETT married and had a son called John in 1837. John Lovett 1837 was born Kendal area and married 1858 Kendal area. If I've got the wrong end of the stick, please let the board know. Jools

if john and mary were married in 1803 ,mary lovett had 2 children when she married John Storey both called lovett a dorothy and john lovett, and its the son john im after if he was still in Kendal in 1841/51 he would of been about 38/48 but i dont know who he married. he must have still lived in kendal as his son also called john born 1837 in kendal also married in 1858 Kendal ,hope this is better to understand it takes some sorting out carol

thanks everyone for your help very grateful . im looking for a John Storey who married a Mary lovett in 1803 ,mary had a Son john and a daughter dorothy when she married him ,so dont know if Mary had been married before or that was her maiden name . its the son john lovett who im after as he was also married kendal ,so i was trying to find family of storeys in kendal that might be them , but have nt found birth of John Storey or Mary Lovett hope you understand this . really pleased with your help am trying to see if theres antthing there in your searchs what you ve found carol
