Hi Alison Thank you for your offer. Could you please look on the 1841 census for Elizabeth Haswell, born 1818 in St margarets, Leicester and living in Burbage, Leicestershire. I have found her on the 1861 and upwards census with her children and widowed but cannot find the family on the 1841 or 1851 census which I am hoping will give me the name of her husband. Children born before 1841 are William and Ann. Lindsey

Thanks very much Alison - this may be a very good result anyway - shows Peter may have remained in Berwick after all. He may not be the same Peter Hastie who was claimed to be the errant husband - hehe! Glenys

Hi Alison Thank you for the info re the servants. Thank you too for your offer of looking up some more for me. It is very generous of you. My maternal grandmother was a Pogmore (can sometimes be spelt Pugmore, Pugmire etc,) Her grandfather was baptised William Pogmore in Empingham, Rutland on 30 Oct 1825 and was the son of Frances Pogmore (noted to be a single woman). His marriage certificate(1848) states his name to be John William Lowe Pogmore - might this John Lowe be someone his mother married sometime after Williams birth and was willing to bring him up as his own, or was John Lowe his real father? - we don't know. So it would be interesting to see if you could find him on the 1941 census to see if his mother married / had other kids etc. and to find out the county of Frances' birth. Thanks again Jan

Hi Alison Jan back again I'm not sure if you are still running this thread, but if you are I wonder if you could please look up for me John Limb (1829) Eastwood, Nottingham and see where he is in 1841. I think he is unmarried and hopefully will be at home with father Thomas and mother Hannah. Could you also tell me if there are any other Limb families in Eastwood for that census. Thank you Jan

David & Jan Report 9 Jul 2006 15:49

Hello Alison Thank you. I think this is probably the family I am looking for. I found some info on IGI but what you have found adds to it. I had found a Thomas (1798),married to Hannah (1798) with Jane(1820), Elizabeth(1826), John (1829)and Martha(1837).Elizabeth was Christened in Brinsley whereasthe younger two were Christened in Eastwood. So it is quite feasible they should be living in Brinsley in 1841. The coal miner bit fits too. I have also managed to find Thomas' family, so if you don't mind looking it would be very interesting to see if any of the others in Eastwood belong to them. I only managed to find births/Christenings not deaths, so don't know who would be alive at this time. Also there are big gaps and the age spread seems huge but I double checked and the parents are all Edward Limb and Jane Poyser. The girls may be married of course. Thomas' family are: Edward (1772)---dad Jane(1775) ------mum Edward (1779) Thomas(1798)------as above Ann(1801) John (1803) Joseph (1809)- Elizabeth (1812) Hannah(1814) Jane(1824) Ann(1825) Elizabeth (1828) Thank you very much for your help Jan

David & Jan Report 10 Jul 2006 13:42

Thank you very much Alison, it is a little confusing isn't it? I'm not entirely sure about these - the first family could well be the Joseph brother of Thomas. I will keep all the info as it may make sense when other things come to light. I can't believe that the Eastwood Limbs are not all somehow related if you go back far enough. I have just had contact with someone else who has Eastwood Limbs and wondered, when you have time, if you could be so kind as to look up in 1841 for any of this family: Elizabeth Limb b1812 (Eastwood) married, a Samuel Kilbourne brothers Atherling(1826) and Thomas(1829) both born in Hyson Green - which is near Eastwood I think - so they may be living in Hyson Green in 1841 she is not sure about the parents - I looked up in IGI and it could be Athling and Phillis but only Elizabeth(1814) and Willliam(1817) , both born in Eastwood, are mentioned as children Thank you. It does help sometimes to sort out the other families with similar names, so it is clearer who is who. best wishes Jan
