Hi Kerri Thanks for looking. It looks as if he may have jumped ship and perhaps entered illegally - I suppose I will never know. Just as an aside I am really impressed with the way you can download cerificates on-line in Australia. I have William and Mary Ann's marriage certificate plus one other, the cost was reasonable and they were available in less than a minute. If only certificates were available like that in England!! Cheers. Helen

Hi Kerri, can you access any records for Sydney in the 1930s or 40s by any chance? I'm looking for a rellie that went out there and was never heard of again after WWII. He was thought to have ben killed when Sydney was bombed, although I have no idea what evidence that family story is based on! If you can access anything he might appear on his name was Wilson RAMSDEN and he was born 1899 in Bolton, Lancashire. He went out to Australia in the 1920s H.

Hello Kerri Thank you so much for your kind offer. I am looking for William Garmston, born Yorton, Shropshire 1846, and will have arrived in Australia between 1861 and 1871. He married Mary Ann Leach in Australia and I have managed to track a lot of the family through on-line State BMD records. The vital piece of information I lack is how William got to Australia. I did find a young man with a very similar name employed as a sailor on an Australian registered ship in the mid 1860's and wondered if he 'jumped ship' on one of the voyages. I would appreciate any information you could find out about his arrival there. One last thing which may help, his parents were Thomas Garmston and Ann Tomkiss. Many thanks Helen
