Sorry probably didn´t explain myself fully. Found a possible marriage to a Jane Slee - so then looked on the census for a Jane Slee b c1849 in Manchester (which would match up with the Jane Chamberlain on the 1871 census) - and the only Jane Slee I could find in the 1851 & 1861 census was a Jane Slee born in 1840/1841. I really think the age difference is too much to think this might be the right one.

hiya again, elaine dont forget that 1841 census ages were rounded down to nearest age!!!!!! so i would think that it IS her in question, it has only just dawned on me (duh!) about ages. Julie

Elaine

Elaine Report 17 May 2006 13:49

Because when I tried to find a Jane Slee on previous census the only one I could find (born in Manchester) was born in 1841 - on the 1871 census your Jane was born in 1849

emmybaby Report 17 May 2006 13:08

I need a mystery solving I have been trying now off and on for four years so if anyone wants to play Sherlock heres the story. My grandfathers brother WILLIAM CHAMBERLAIN born in Stepney Middlesex 1845 went to live and work in Manchester at the age of 17,thats on census he is occupation is down as FISH CURER the next time I find him is when he has a wife and son living in Grimsby this from the 1871 census The wife is named Jane born Manchester the son is named as JOHN WILLIAM born Manchester abt 1868. Then on the 1881 census I find William and son in lodgings in Grimsby, same occupation, only this time no wife around and he has named his son as JOSEPH by now he is 13yrs old. My plight is what date did they marry? What was her maiden name? Did she leave him or did she die,if so what date did she die and where? Why did the sons name change? The next time I find William he is living at my grandparents home in Grimsby 1891 no son with him. The last trace I can find of him is in 1901 still living at my grandparents in Grimsby. ANYBODY UP FOR THIS CHALLENGE??? I hope I can recieve some help with this mystery. thankyou Emmybaby xxxx
