1861 That makes sense. Does the record mean William was living there with 4 children and Eliza and Susanna Rivers. Was Susanna the sister in law and later married her dead sister's first husband? And what happened to those Harvey children as on 1871 they are gone but Eliza is still there.

Julie Thanks for looking this up. It makes for interesting reading. Certainly seems like the right girl we are looking for. Am determined to find a birth cert for her! And you found me a few more people to add to my family tree. Will be spending some time looking for more births and deaths now. Have assumed James and Ellen didn't marry as cannot find their marriage cert. Don't suppose James is listed on the 1881/1971 is he? Wonder if it will show who he was married to first and if he had children with her?

Julie Yes it is Thomas Guy's family I would like to trace so that would be 20th Century records. Think I will leave that for another day!! Don't know if you can help with his parents though. Really big brick wall with this one. The childrens birth certificates show James Guy and Ellen Guy formerly Harvey as parents. On 1891 their places of birth are Dovercourt Essex which I have established was Tendring district. on 1901 his says Lynn, Norfolk and hers is still Dovercourt. So I have found a poss for him in kings lynn, there is nothing in Dovercourt for the same time period. Cannot find anything for Ellen Harvey or anything similar. Or a marriage certificate for them First child Emma was born in 1887 and George's in 1888 says Ellen Guy formerly Harvey. Now the interesting thing in family gossip is that James had a former family and ran off with Ellen so they may not have actually been married but I thought I would find a birt cert for her. Do you fancy having a look into this for me? Thanks

Hi Have been trawling Ancestry.co.uk for marriage and got a bit distracted sorry! The listing on the 1901 census has been transcribed wrong. It shows the surname as Grey but the scan is clearly Guy and I know most of the sibling names so am confident its right. correct details are James guy b circa 1853 Kings Lynn (waiting for birth cert) Ellen guy b c 1862 Dovercourt Essex Emma Elizabeth Guy b1887 Dovercourt (waiting for birth cert) George William Guy b19/12/1888 Dovercourt (Grandad) He was in a children's home at time of census so does not appear Ethel Lilian Guy b 10/10/1890 d 1893 (her details were on 1891 census) Nelly Guy b1892 (waiting for bc) d 1902 May Guy b1894 (') Edward Guy b25/7/1895 Lilian guy b1897 (waiting for bc) Thomas Guy b9/10/1899 Dorothy? Guy b1900 All the children from Ethel onwards were born in Wandsworth. Have a poss marriage for Emma E Guy in 1911 but no one has ever mentioned her! Thomas is the one the older members of the family remember so I thought he would be a good place to start as i know he married and had three sons.

Guy Thomas H (Hall) Wandsworth.1d 1289 Marriage Sept 1918 = Lillian H Hall Guy Thomas E (Bowyer) Wandsworth.1d 1089 Marriage March 1919 = Kate Bowyer Name in Brackets is Wife's surname Did your Thomas have a middle initial ? There is also this Thomas Guy marrying in 1919 but in Wolverhampton ... Guy Thomas H (Hinton) Wolverhampton.6b 1623 Marriage June 1919 = Amy Hinton

hiya, do you have census details for the family?? do you know his parents names, or post his siblings details on here and we can find them, it is after 1901 that trying to trace family gets more difficult, but you have ahd some brilliant advice, and if you get stuck, give us a shout julie
