Georgina dont know what records you have but I am trying to find details of Evelyn Helen McLachlan c 1928 Ballindalloch Banff. I dont know if this person is still alive or if she married I know she was still single in 1955 so if you have anything to help me find either a marriage or death for her after then it would be a real help Thanks Gloria Sorry to but in Annie

Annie I dont know if there is any connection here but Peters next door neighbours in 1881 are these.. Dwelling: Middletonhill Census Place: Gamrie, Banff, Scotland Source: FHL Film 0203439 GRO Ref Volume 155-A EnumDist 3 Page 6 Marr Age Sex Birthplace William MILNE M 56 M Tyrie, Aberdeen, Scotland Rel: Head Occ: Crofter Of 1 1/2 Acre Jane MILNE U 17 F Gamrie, Banff, Scotland Rel: Daur His age on the marriage certificate does seem a little strange but he wouldn't be the first person to lie about their age. Are you sure it's the right Peters death in 1906? Maybe the person giving the info didn't know Peters parents names. Georgina.

yes your right. i have all the census from 1871 to 1901 which says he was born in 1828 but the marriage cert says he is 25 years in 1859 which is telling me born 1834 more so its his parents which don't add up to his death cert annie

Hi Georgina No i do not have my grandpa's birth cert. My auntie (his daughter) has been doing the scottish family tree for years by manual (no computer) and this is the info she gave me. I have been able to look up everything on Scotlands people apart from my grandpa's birth. Jessie Morrison married Robert Stewart 08/01/1910 thanks ever so much for helping me out. I really thought the scottish side of the family was going to be easy to find given the info you can get on line. My Lambeth family seems like a blinking breeze LOL Annie

Annie can I just ask have you got a copy of your grandads birth certificate (just wondering because births on scotlands people only go up to 1905). If you have got a copy of his BC is there any writing in the margins? Have you checked the marriages on scotlands people to see if Jessie married after his birth. I will see if I can check earlier rellies but at the moment the family search site is playing up, it's on a go slow. Georgina.

Hi Georgina something in this family line just doesn't add up. My Grandfather was JAMES SIMPSON MORRISON. He was born 26/06/1908 at 49 Low Street, New Pitsligo, under his mothers name as father unknown and changed his surname to Stewart when his mother married. His mother; JESSIE MORRISON was born 21/02/1875 Middletonhill, parish of Gamrie, Banff - parents Peter Morrison & Mary Burnett who were married in King Edward November 1859 Marriage cert for Peter Morrison and Mary Burnett on 26/11/1859 states parents of Peter Morrison are Alexander Morrison and Jane Milne. he was 25 years which would give his birth as 1834. The birth cert for Peter morrison with those parents gives 1828 The death cert i found for Peter Morrison was 26/06/1906 at 49 Low Street (where my grandfather was born 2 years later), but his parents are listed as George Morrison and what looks like Anne ??? I bet your glad you asked now LOL Annie

Annie did he die in the workhouse? If he did it means his daughter was also in there as an inmate when he died. Post some details and I will see what I can find. Georgina.

Hi Davina Thanks for replying to my thread. I am really having trouble tracking my scottish side, only because i am a londoner so i am not used to scottish names or areas. I have come across a death cert that says daughter and inmate? under the heading of signature of informant. do you know what this means? Thanks Annie

Hi Annie I have also had trouble finding marriages and births sometimes - I have a serious brick wall on one ancestor. I think perhaps they didn't always get married and births were not always registered. A couple of my ancestors had to have their marriage 'regularised' by the church shortly before the birth of their first child, so perhaps others 'got away' with not marrying officially. Otherwise, I have found scotlandspeople very efficient. Davina

I have just started looking for my scottish side of the family and i am using Scotlands People website. Can you please tell me if this is complete and correct. I am trying to find a marriage of my gg grandparents which i thought i had found, however the parents are not the same of my gg grandfather which are listed on his death cert. I know i have the correct death cert as my grandfather was born in the same house that gg grandfather died in 2 year previous. hope that makes some sense. Thanks Annie
