I think you are probably right Jools. I need a cert for John Langdale & Thomasin Cooper as well so might hold on until I can afford to get them both. Just really fascinated by it all, so quite impatient! Trying to run before I can walk I think.

Info for Ann (easier to put on here than in a pm) Ann - if you do an IGI search for children born to Thomas Killingbeck and Leah, you get 1. WILLIAM KILLINGBECK - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Birth: 24 NOV 1806 2. WILLIAM KILLINGBECK - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 30 NOV 1806 Carlton Juxta Snaith, Yorkshire, England 3. SARAH KILLINGBECK - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Birth: 29 DEC 1808 4. SARAH KILLINGBECK - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 01 JAN 1809 Carlton Juxta Snaith, Yorkshire, England 5. JOHN KILLINGBECK - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 05 SEP 1813 Carlton Juxta Snaith, Yorkshire, England 6. GEORGE KILLINGBECK - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 03 APR 1811 Carlton Juxta Snaith, Yorkshire, England 7. BESSY KILLINGBECK - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Birth: 08 MAR 1805 8. BESSY KILLINGBECK - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 10 MAR 1805 Carlton Juxta Snaith, Yorkshire, England 9. SUSANNA KILLINBECK - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 25 JAN 1818 Birkin, Yorkshire, England 10. ROBERT KILLINGBECK - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 02 JUL 1820 Birkin, Yorkshire, England 11. ANN KILLINGBECK - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 21 JAN 1816 Birkin, Yorkshire, England 12. MARY KILLINGBECK - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 31 JUL 1822 Birkin, Yorkshire, England I would say they're all the same family - Carlton & Birkin are both in the right area. So, going back a step, on the IGI for Thomas who I'm guessing is born 1770 to 1780 You've a likely birth 1. THOMAS KILLINGBEK - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 11 MAY 1777 Carlton Juxta Snaith, Yorkshire, England (this is an extracted record so likely to be 95% correct) and a likely marriage THOMAS KILLINGBECK Marriages: Spouse: LEAH BRITON Family Marriage: 25 JUN 1804 Carlton Juxta Snaith, Yorkshire, England (this is a member submitted entry so a degree of caution is needed) William 1806 is on 1851 census (gives pob as Carlton) George 1811 is on 1851 census (born 1808, pob Cowick) So, yes, you could be on the right lines. If it was me I would want to dig a little more on the other children to see if I could get more corroboratiion before I stick them on my tree. I'd especially want to know more about this little lot ho107/2351 f270 p19 Living Ousegate, Selby Mary Furniss abt 1804 Selby, Head widow formerly laundress Mary Furniss abt 1840 Selby, Daughter scholar Nancy Furniss abt 1842 Selby, Daughter scholar Thomas Killingbeck abt 1776 Camblesforth, Uncle ag lab When finances allow I would get that Gofton/Killingbeck marriage certificate - it will help with the is he/isn't he of Thomas Killingbeck/Leah as parents. You really should look on the Access to Archives site. There's plenty about the Goftons of Filey including (I'm sorry to say) a bastardy order. On a more cheerful note there's a photograph of Bert Gofton in a football team: Filey Heritage Collection of photographs, file 17: organisations Catalogue Ref. FHC/F17 Creator(s): Crimlisk Fisher Archive FILE - People: schools - ref. Thanks Jools. I think that makes it even more certain that we have the right Gofton parents for Jane if they are next to each other on the census in Goftons yard. Sure that Kilbeck is just a transcription error. They make it so difficult to find people don't they? I am looking at the 1861 for the family at the mo, & Jane & John seem to be at Church Street but their family, all except Robert, seem to have disappeared. A bit odd as George, their youngest, would only be about 11. Robert I have found as 'Killingbreck' in London, which is right, as all but one of his children were subsequently born in London but I can't find Elizabeth (maybe she married?) Nancy (about 16) or George. Grrrr! It's now become a quest!!

Could anyone looking up this for me on the 1841, also look to see if G & E's daughter Jane & husband John & their daughter Elizabeth(2) were also living in the same yard? Thank You!

Phase Two! - Assuming that we are now fairly sure that George & Elizabeth are Janes parents, could ayone have a look on the 1841 for them for me? On the 1851 they are transcribed 'Gatton', living in Goftons Yard, Filey & George is a butcher. Would like to see if they were there in '41 as well. Thanks!

Ann The film of the Parish Registers can be ordered to your nearest LDS Records Centre. If you look on www.familysearch.org you can find out where your nearest one is. You'll need to pop in and order the film, cost £2.70 last time I ordered one I think. They were really helpful when I first went and showed me what I needed to do. The films take a couple of weeks to arrive and the LDS will ring you or write when it gets there. They hold it for a month so you have plenty of time to view it.

Reg - Selby and Carlton juxta Snaith are in the same area. Selby is Selby, Carlton is Goole, so it's a reasonable assumption it's the right guy's entry. Jools

Thanks Reg! Not too sure on the geography here myself either but will try to have a look on a map to checkout if it's near Selby at all. The Whitby family is definitely the right one, although they later moved back to Filey again Thanks for your help!

Thanks for everyone's help on Sunday re Jane's family! Does anyone have access to any Filey Parish registers or Marriage records that might prove who Jane's father is by any chance? I think that her marriage record would give her fathers name, which might prove that we have the right family here. Might also have the name of her husband John's father, so I could make some progress there as well. Jane & John married in 1837 -Scarborough dist.- Sept qu. - vol 24 p353.
