don't know if this helps but I reckon all the fudges must have been some sort of relatives.Ilchester is only a tiny town 5 miles from Yeovil. I used to live there, can't see there being that many unrelated and if my memory serves me right there is only one church there to, so if they got married in Ilchester it would have to be there

Doesn't the 1861 image show that Ellen is married? Do you think that is a mistake or that they haven't listed her married name? Heather

OH BOY ! Didn't realise it had gone from Nudge to Judge to Fudge/Hudge ! The 1861 image definately says NUDGE. I'll go back and check the images for 51 & 41

Since Ellen Nudge was still at home on the 1861, I can only assume that the daughter Louise b 1861 was born AFTER the census was taken ..... and obviously Ellen didn't marry till after March 1861 - so that narrows down the search for a marriage - after March 61 !!! That's IF they married ? Elaine ;-)

i couldnt find stockland either, i havnt looked on the 1861 census for Nudge, but i suppose it could have been mistranscibed

Have searched 1861 again .... for James. Problem is,. can't find any born in Stockland ! Checked 1841 Devon for Stockland and it's NOT listed so ....went back to 1861. Can't see Ellen on the 1901 ...... so iether she died between 1891 - 1901 - which I can't find a death for ... or she remarried ... yes i have my gt grandmas birth cert, it says Matilda goff born 20/6/1876 Northover, Ilchester, Yeovil. fathers name James goff mothers Name Ellen goff formerly Nudge James was a farm labourer, they changed the spelling of goff in 1871 according to my dad but thats all we know

Have you got a child's birth cert ? I can't find a 'Nudge' marriage between 1855 - 1861 ... but haven't looked 1862 onwards. Where did the Nudge name come from ? Elaine ;-)
