Thru my University login i have access to the Scotsman digital archives. These show all the articals printed in the Scotsman newspaper from 1817 to 1950. Most likely to help people who have relatives who where involved in accidents, won awards ect. The articles can be searched for free at the Scotsman website but you have to have a subscription to view the whole article. If you would like me to look for you can i ask you to first do a search yourself and pick out a few articles that interest you then let me know which ones they are. The archives holds SOME birth, marriage and death ANNOUNCEMENTS but only if your ancestors had the money as it was quite expensive. The address is www.scotsman(.)com then click on the advert on the left hand side of the page. NO PM'S till and IF i find something for you. Click on 'Add Reply' to post a message here. Hope this helps somepeople Mhairi p.s If one of the articles interests you then i'll need your email to send it to you, emails to be sent in a pm when and if i find something that interests you. |

Hey Lesley Have saved both the clippings so if you pm me your email i'll get them sent out to you. The one about the ships is not about the ancestor you mentioned, its about a Andrew Finlayson who was on one of the other ships and survived. Looking at the others now Mhairi |

Hi Mhairi Thank you for your kind offer. I didn't even know about the Scotsman newspaper until I saw your post. This is a very long shot. I'm looking for any information I can find on my great grandfather John Brennan. All I really know is that he came from Dennistoun in Glasgow and was serving with the military in WW1, mostly the Air Force but could have started out with the Army before the Air Force was formed. He died 1918 in Oxford from the Spanish flu pandemic. A couple of articles look interesting after typing into the search criteria 'john brennan glasgow royal air force'. They are: Operations of the British Army Gallant and Distinguished The Scotsman - 14th January 1916 Section: None Page: 10 Word Count: 45,727 and Naval and Military News Scottish Command Orders The Scotsman - 6th March 1918 Section: None Page: 7 Word Count: 3,377 As I said, quite a long shot that the articles relate to him but I know so little about him, thought I'd give it a shot, with your kind help. Thanks in advance Emma |

Hey Clare If you pm me with your email i'll get the clipping sent off to you. Oh and it'll not be too late for another 3 and a half years - when i finish uni. So ask away if you need anything else. Lesley Busy - No, bored! Tried - Yes however i wont get to sleep for at least another hour with all these people running/shouting/singing/crying/banging ect. Ah student life! The three items came up with all those words in them but after scanning them (the words are ment to show up highlighted) i cant see where they mention Ladds or Drainie at all. I did find another about a John Ladds though. He's mentioned as being a tentant at a house thats about to go up for sale in Lossiemouth. Would you like me to send you that one? Mhairi |

Peter You would be better looking at their marriage cert on Scotlandpeople. It's £6 for 30 credits but you actually get to view the cert and print it out. The marriage cert will give you both sets of parents plus the maiden names of the mothers and lots more info. Nothing came up in the Scotsman Mhairi |
