Is it a bird? is it a plane? Report 24 Jan 2006 21:25

Joanna Hyde - You didn't give any locations for most of them! So I did a search on the IGI For Alice and found her baptism in Newburn parish to William Tulip and Margaret Bones. Therefore I'm asssuming thats the family I'm looking for?? So I've started searching for Tulip's in Newburn parish. I ran out of time but I did find these, 1803 Alice Tulip of Thockley (Fell?) Born May 1st Baptised June 19th 1st daughter William Tulip Pitman native of Ovingham Parish by his wife Margaret Bones native of (Tankerfield?) Parish 1805 Mary Tulip of Throckley (?) Tow? Born June 18 Baptised October 20th (1/9?) daughter Samuel Tulip husbandman native of Ovingham Parish by his wife Dorothy Barrow native of Corbridge parish 1806 John Tulip of Throckley Black (Now?) Born November 25th 1805 Baptised January 26th 1806 1st son of William Tulip pitman native of Ovingham Parish by his wife Margaret Bones native of Lanchester Parish.

Not to worry Sarah, what you've already done is great. If you can find out anything extra that's just icing on the cake, but don't spend too long on this.

You're a star, Sarah. Sorry that I didn't put the places in, what a twit I am! That has given me something to try and get a lead on William - might see me again in your next visit link!! Joanna

Hi Sarah, Wow you have done wonders. Thank you very much. My cousin gave me some of the names a couple of years ago when I was in the UK but she never mentioned a possible adoption of John, interesting. She never mentioned a Josephine, wonder if she died young. Must try and find that out. Sarah did you take note of the name of the church. Thank you also for looking at the RC church. Regards Anne-Marie

Hi Sarah, thanks for your time. Okay, I hope they would have the 1841 census. Robert and Ann Ramage are missing from 1851 upwards. Perhaps they were passed away before 1851. Mary Ramage was married to William Waters in 1847 at London. I have found their censuses from 1851 to 1901. Cheers, Steven.

Steven - They don't have any Newcastle census returns :( Very sorry I can't help. Elaine - I checked Chevington parish baptisms and the only Spears I found was William, November 7th 1894 William, parents = James and Isabella, Surname = Spears, residence= (Forster crescent?), father's occupation = miner I suspect that as miners the family may have moved around a bit. I think the 1901 census will give you further ideas of where to look if you haven't already looked at it.

Anne-Marie - The Church was Wallsend St Peter's (the anglican one where I found all the records). I don't think John was adopted, I think someone on the following page was and the ink blanking out the adoptee leaked onto John's record! I did check the list of RC churches in Northumberland and the St Columba one was listed as 'exisiting', it really just seems that they haven't allowed their registers to be filmed.

Hi Sarah, It could only have been one of two Anglican churches that I am aware of in Wallsend. So it's good to know exactly where my grandmother was christened. She was one of the twins, by the way. And thank you for clarifying John not being adopted. I seems to appear the a lot of RC churches have kept their own records. Interesting when I looked up for the death of Josephine (which I did not find) I did find another child though, Benjamin Addle born Dec 1904 died Mar 1907. Maybe another time you are doing lookups I will add that one. The dates fit in between a 1901 birth and my grandmothers 1908. Once again many thanks for all you help and time. Regards Anne-Marie

Hi Sarah, thanks for your time. That's okay. I have to wait for Ancestry Uk to get 1841 census. Cheers, Steven.

Just came across this entry - are you still able to do Parish record lookups? My family came from Northumberland and I've come to a stand still in some ares of searching. They would be Church Of England records I expect. I've only just started researching
