Stumped with this Have double checked Henry's occupation on the 1901 and 1891 and his son's marriage cert and it is Tin plate maker the same as the one in the Sheffield workhouse in 1881 and his age and area he was born in is the same but can I find his wife and kids in 1881- nope!! we're the ashamed he was in the workhouse and just didn't do the census?? anyone's guess!!

You can search 1881 with just an address but I can't find Burnell Road for you I'm afraid.

Thanks Have found the road and it is still in Sheffield, infact it is round the corner a stones throw from where I was brought up. I think that it is Henry in the workhouse and that the family could have stayed in Birmingham whilst he came to Sheffield to look for work in the steel industry. Going to search in and around Birmingham for his wife and kids in 1881

Hi Joanne, The marriage certificate for one of Henry's children will not give you the mothers name, might be better getting the birth certificate for either Thomas or George as they seem the most likely two to be both Henry's and Emma's. Found this index looks good as they were living Ecclesfield in 1891 and Wortley covers that area. Yep seen that one and for ages went down that route and ended up down the totally wrong tree until I obtained the marriage cert for one of Henry children. Have looked again on ancestry and in the 1901 and 1891 they are living on the same raod in Sheffield which is Burnell Road, can we trace just on road names anywhere?

Jessie aka Maddies mate Report 13 Jan 2006 20:53

Yes I've got acess and have done what I can with regards to searching under the name of Fellows, and Felours and even Follows but seem to be drawing a blank

Zoe

Zoe Report 13 Jan 2006 20:50

Ask for a 1861/1871 lookup on Henry and see if he is with family or not-i would do it but don't have access Zoe

Joanne Have you got access to Ancestry? Nikki Ignore that..... I've found a rather interesting/confusing entry in 1881: 3 House Ct 3 Hollis Croft, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England It reads...... Henry Fellows son aged 6 b Birmingham, warwickshire Emma Fellows daur aged 13 Birmingham, Warwickshire Emma Hall lodger aged 32 Sheffield, Yorkshire Frank Hall son aged 4 mths Sheffield, Yorkshire.

Jessie aka Maddies mate Report 13 Jan 2006 20:41

Wouldn't be surprised I have a family who were always known as Warren until I started this and have found out that they were Rogans, have no idea why they used Warren Think the 1881 one is right for Henry living in the workhouse as he has the same occupation, now need to know where the rest of the family were in 1881

Spellings of surnames do change in families over the years I have the surname Pickles that was originally PIGHILLS - why I don't know? This is just a thing that sometimes happens Zoe

Jessie aka Maddies mate

Jessie aka Maddies mate Report 13 Jan 2006 20:27

Thats them with the name spelt wrong!! Thankyou - perhaps that's why I can find traces of them in any census becasue of the spellings, or perhaps for over 100 years we have been spelling it wrong
