Mhairi, so sorry it has taken me a while to see your reply. I have not checked this forum for a few weeks. It is a shame that you do not have dates but you have given me a new direction to follow up. I had no idea that my grandmother was actually my grandfather's second wife. I wonder now if his brothers originated from the first or second marriage. I am not sure if I understand your notes correctly. I have pasted your answer below, for convenience. Does this mean that John Waugh, aged 22, married Sarah Loudon, aged 16. Her parents were John Loudon (deceased) and Margaret Buchanan. They divorced in March 1921 and he later married Elizabeth Carmichael, aged 25, daughter of Alexander and Mary Carmichael. We are not sure when this was, other than that my grandfather was 38 at the time and it was after 1921. You have also now found for me my great grandparents, about whom I had no prior knowledge - John Waugh, a saddler and Margaret Bell. I need to get back to Scotland's People to dig further, but you have weakened the brick wall for me to stand a chance of knocking it down. Thank you very much for your help. Gerry Eh i got the marriage and his other one (suprise for you) but i've gone and done the most stupidest thing and not copied down the dates. I can tell you that the Waugh/Carmichael one was just after he got divorced, so sorry. John Waugh 38 Formerly married to Sarah Loudon, divorced on the ? march 1921 Elizabeth Marmichael 25 John Waugh (saddler) Margaret Bell Alexander Carmichael Mary ? (couldnt read, sorry) John Waugh 22 Sarah Loudon 16 John Loudon decd Margaret Buchanan

Wow! I didn't expect a response so soon! Thank you very much, I truly appreciate the time you took to do this (I'm overseas so going there myself isn't a possibility right now). That is interesting about Delia not appearing - have to dig on that one. Hope your own research went well! Lisa

Susan Drake Catherine Reed 10/12/1934 John Henry Reed Isabella Mainland Graham Married on the 5/12/1934 Allan Graham Reed 14/01/1939 Above parents Isobel Robert Rodgers m Elizabeth Welch Robinson 7/05/1951 (78) Robert Rodgers Mary Besom Elizabeth Rodgers Widow ?/03/1952 (79) Thomas Robinson Ann Welch All parents decd. Anne-Marie No death for Felix in Scotland. Maybe that was the reason for them to move across here as they also dont appear in the 1871 census. Margaret Ok well i can sort out the twin theory - sadly there is none. I could find no death for a Mary Ellen Riddick or any Riddick matching her age ect in any time (and i searched quite far thru the years). As for another child, without a name it would take awhile to look thru all the Marshalls to find one. Maybe when they up date the system so that it shows on the search the mothers maiden name aswell i would be able to find one. I do have the details of the marriage Marshall/Riddick if you'd like them and dont already have them. Anne Yup, just outside the scotlandspeople time bracket. William Kennedy 33 Annie Pye 31 13/07/1934 John Kennedy (Police constable) Emily Turvey John Pye Annie ?Denyway? (previously ?Sheill?) unsure of both names. Teresa (again) I couldnt find any William McDonald with parents John and Barbara a couple of years both sides of the dates given. Sorry Donna Dont think this is your guy unless someone got the parents wrong, which is always possible. Kenneth MacKenzie 6/05/1917 (91) w Catherine MacDonald Roderick MacKenzie Effie MacKenzie

Robyn Janet McNie widower of Duncan McNie 22/03/1893 (64, lol) George Kane - Farmer Christina ?Shevant? (unsure of maiden name) both decd Ages will change alot in census's and other things epecially if it is not the person themselfs giving in the info. Death certs can be a major problem of this, i found one yesterday and the information was given by the son in law who managed to get the decd widowed to his own mother (if that makes sense). Makes it more challenging i suppose. Shona Since you know most of the info already and would like a cert i'll point you in the direction of scotlandspeople. Its £6 for 30 credits, one to search and 5 to view an image (the actually cert!) which you can then print out. If you work it out you can get four certs out of it and marriages are the best cause you get both sets of parents. If you'd like you of the real ones then the scottish GRO have a form to fill in. (couldnt read, sorry) John Waugh 22 Sarah Loudon 16 John Loudon decd Margaret Buchanan Susan There are no George's registered to a David and Mary Davis about 5 years either side of the census. Any chance he was not born in scotland or that he was maybe adopted? Lisa Helen McFarlane 14/06/1905 Isabella Harkley McFarlane 19/05/1909 James Campbell White McFarlane 17/08/1907 Henry Harkley McFarlane 16/11/1920 No sign of Delia i looked thru all those McFarlanes begining with a D and none matched. Was this maybe a pet name? or a shortened one?

Lesley Your searchs had my running round in circles, till i realsied the dates for the first one where slightly out by ten years lol Ann Thomas 17/01/1888 (23) Pauper - illegitimate William Thomas (reputed father) Jemima Gunn ms Elder Adam Elder m Jessie Stewart 31/03/1887 Drowned at sea 40 miles of the cost of Orkney, body not found by time of registration. If i read it correctely the ship was called the 'Invincible', which i thought was kinda ironic. Couldnt find John Booth. The problem with the earlier ones is that in 1855 you get loads of info but by 1856 the start to cut back and in most places you only get married/single/widowed (till a few years past that when they list full names) and the only way to identifie them is by the person recording the death. Anyway in a few months scotlandspeople should have the 1851 census up and running so you'll be able to narrow down the time frame. Rosalyn Hannah E Davis 18/10/1968 Coronary Thrombosis Info - ? W Stewart (i think, hand writing terrible) Grand nephew. The first name might be William but its not printed just signed so i apologise if i get it wrong. Danielle Couldnt find any married/widowed to Janet Mathison/Matheson and without that it is very difficult if you dont know parents names so any could be yours. See my point in Lesleys about deaths certs around about 1856, they are very annoying. At the moment i'm not doing OPR look ups, which is the ones you'll need for the other search you asked for. I will most likely be back in march sometime and if have time i'll post another offer of help where i may be able to look at the OPR's

Teresa 24/11/1885 Catherine Downie McDonald 23 William George ? McClelland 23 - shipping clerk John McDonald (decd) Catherine McKinlay William George McClelland Margaret Robertson ?Paisley? (unsure of maiden name) Susan Hazzard William McGillivary Mennie 16/4/1920 William Mennie Robina McGillivary Elaine Not a blooming sign of him anywhere. I searched from 1871 to way past 1901. I did find a William Christie in the 1891 who roughly matched in age (married, living on his own) but the occupation was out. Sorry i couldnt be more help. Cath George Hill Widower of Agnes Baillie or Stark 12/9/1961 (has the parents you mentioned) Went a bit further 17/07/1919 George Hill 39 Agnes Stark 41 (w) ? Baillie Agnes ?
