Hi there, thank you for the offer. I am in NZ, and would like to find dates of death for 3 members of a family - James Muir Caldwell born 9 July 1896, Martha Caldwell born 23 March 1901, and Mary McLean Caldwell born 1904. Their parents were James and Kate Caldwell (Reid), both born 1874, and the births were recorded in the District of Hutchesontown, Glasgow. The only marriage I could find was Mary McLean who married Hugh Wylie 13 April 1925, 63 Millha? Rd, Glasgow, and there the trail ran out for me over here. . Actually any info you come across would be much appreciated! If I can help with any records over here for you would be happy to help regards Julie in NZ

Hello Mhari Thank you for your kind offer. Would it be possible for you to have a look for the date of the marriage of William Kennedy to Annie Pye. William was born in 1901 and was the son of John Kennedy and Emily Anne Turvey. I have looked as far as 1930 on Scotlands people and feel the marriage must be in the next couple of years after that date. William was a motor driver and appears to have lived in the Glasgow area most of his life. Anne.

Hi Mhairi, Thanks you for your kind offer. I have been trying to find the death of Felix Duffy. Year of birth unknown. 1881 census his wife Susan Duffy is a widow, b. 1837. She and family were all born in Cavan, Ireland so I am assuming that he was also from Ireland. 1881 address is 18 Pole Street, Forfar. On Susan Julia Duffy's death cert it says that Felix was a farmer. Children were Margaret b. 1861 Catherine b. 1862 and Felix b. 1864. If there is anything else you require let me know. Regards Anne-Marie

All should have been born in Dumbarton, Dumbartonshire between 1905-1920 (the only one I know for sure is Henrys) Parents are James Campbell White McFarlane and Isabella Harkley McFarlane. Hope that info is okay - thank you! Lisa

Gerry Report 5 Jan 2006 19:46

Mhairi. I hope you can come to my rescue, although I have only limited information. My father Robert Waugh was born on 23rd April 1928 in Glasgow. When he died and I had to register his death I took his birth certificate which was the first and only time I ever saw it. It listed his parents as John Waugh (a bill poster) and Elizabeth, nee Carmichael. I don't have any more information than that. I know that my father was one of three sons and I think he may have been the youngest. I would therefore hazard a guess at their marriage date as being around 1920, and their birth years as therefore being around 1900, but there are far too many John Waughs in the 1901 census around the right age to be conclusive, so I have been trying to find a marriage certificate for John and Elizabeth, but have drawn a complete blank. I no longer live in Scotland (now in Devon) so if you are able to find anything that can help me knock down the Waugh brick wall (particularly a date of John and Elizabeth's marriage), I will be extremely grateful. Since I started this research, my family tree has grown to over 500 names, but these are mainly through my wife or my mother. I am no wiser as to my father's side than I was when I started.

Hi Mhairi Thankyou so much for your very kind offer. I would be so grateful if you could check for 2 deaths for me please? Death of a Lachlan (Lachlin) ROSS, born c1806 Scourie. His occupation Crofter/Farmer, he was married to Janet Mathison/Matheson around the 1830's. Death likely occurred in Findlemore Parish of Scourie in County of Sutherland between 1852 and 1862. Donald McCallum is my gggtGrandfather died in Glasgow. His wife is ? Blair, and they had a son Daniel Bruce born in 1805 in Glasgow, so at a guess Donald would have been born about 1775. Donald's occupation was tobacconist. Not sure if that is enough to go on but would be really grateful for any help. This is taken from his son Daniel's convict records. Sorry to be so vague, if it is going to take too much time please dont worry. Much thanks for the offer. Danielle

Hi Mhairi Thanks for your offer. I wondered if you could try and find the death certificate of Janet McNie. On her headstone in Kirk Lane, Blair Drummond it says Janet Kane died in 1893 at 70years old. It was erected over 10 years after her death so not sure of the accuracy. Here is the mystery: She was married in 1836 to Duncan McNie as Janet Kean, she is Kane on the headstone and her son’s death cert says McQueen as her maiden name. Her age is also as a mystery as she is 65 in 1881 and 70 in 1893 ! If we could find her death certificate it might help us to find her birth and find her parents as we are at a dead end. Will understand if it is too time consuming for you, but thought would ask and see what you think. Thanks Robyn NZ
