i am truly sorry esta, i am grateful to you (any everyone else) for the great response that I have received. I'm trying to sort it all out in my head at the moment!!! what I'm not clear on though is where george wilcock born 1833 sit in all this, I think we have managed to find a son george in 1871, but is this susannah's father??? it doesn't help that they lacked variety in their of names. cheer gaz

Thank you to everyone for taking the time and trouble to look at this strange scenario for me. You have all provided me with something to get my teeth into. I'm logging off now so I do'nt want to offend anyone still searching. I will pick up any further replies later. Kindest regards Gary

Cheers Jim That being the case, she could indeed have been born Violet Susannah WILCOX in dec 1889. Everything would subsequently tie up. How do I get a copy birth cert from the above info 9a 144 (does this mean something to someone????) Presumably this will hold details of her natural parents? cheers

Hi again Gary, The census's are usually correct within a couple of years ... when it comes to age. The information on census's is only as accurate as the person who gave the info in the first place. Some children have been known to be given each others years of births. etc etc. Names can change slightly etc Census's were taken for HEAD COUNT purposes ... not for us future researchers ! The information didn't have to be spot on ... as long as every one was accounted for, and a population count could be done. Hope this helps ! Good Luck Elaine ;-)

I have her death cert dated 06/08/1960 as Violet Susannah Heseltine is this helpful? cheers

Gary

Gary Report 29 Nov 2005 22:45

assuming she was infact born dec, 1889 - would she still be listed as 'abt 1890' on 1901. How accurate are these things anyway? cheers gaz

Wouldn't her BIRTH cert give her MOTHERS name ? Births Dec 1889 Wilcox Violet Susannah Wharfedale 9a 144 Could this be the correct Violet ? She's the ONLY match for all Violet Susannah's born 1889 ~ 1891 for a variation of Wilcock. Elaine ;-) Gary, Do you have ANY certificates at all ? I ask, because on your OTHER thread, you don't KNOW your Grandmothers Maiden name ... and this would be on your Fathers birth cert. Its VERY difficult to try and trace the correct Family Tree without having a handful of certificates getting you back to 1901 or before.

yes sammy is correct, violet susannah wilcock born 1890 married my gr. grandfather on 20/02/1909. Susannah (as sometimes called on 1901) appears to be livving with a George Wilcock born 1833 listed as herv father. I'm not convinced he was, but I cannot disprove. Sammy as found another Susan A Wilcok aged 40 in 1881 (i think) this would appear to be her mother, but how can I be certain?) cheers Gary
