I'm no expert!!! You just need some credits for 1837online and a subscription to Ancestry in this game. That's all I have. Good luck, I hope it gets you started on his family. Kath. x p.s. sorry I didn't see your question about date of birth when ordering the birth certificate, until now. You don't need to put exact date of birth when ordering online, but you do have to put the year in as it is in the reference (1934). Just make sure when it asks 'Is the full GRO reference known?' that you tick 'yes'. If you leave it on 'no' then it WILL ask for date of birth. Yes, Romford is the district, not place of birth.

You need a large library anywhere, as long as they have a copy of the St. Catherine's index. Have found your in-law's marriage now. See reply above. Kath. x

Have found the marriage between James Frederick Weightman and Hilda Blount. Again the year was different to what you thought:- Dec. qtr. 1982, Ilkeston, 6, 0814 Kath. x

I'll order the Birth cecrtificate & then go from there. Thank you everyone. With you saying to go to the libruary wouldnt have to be one near where he used to live or do most libruaries have records you can search that were from national records?

I don't know Jess, it's been happening all night. I keep having to delete replies that go on more than once. I don't think these boards like me tonight, lol Kath. x UPDATE - this one only went on once!!! Keturhah - the marriage should be in the previous married name (should be but not always). I think perhaps if you know the marriage took place because members of the family were there, you were probably just given the wrong year. Most people remember the date, but not always the year.

Kath, Do i still need to put his DOB in (with me not being sure now) & Romford is the district not the placeof birth? Sorry if i sound dim just not done this before. Ket xx

You can search on 1837online for details of marriages, but unless you have a good idea of when the marriage took place it could be very expensive. You can do the same searches on microfishe at a large library or record office, for free. I think the birth certificate should be your first move, that way you may have an address. Kath. x

Yvonne Report 27 Oct 2005 22:12

There is no marriage for those names in 1980 Yvonne

Keturah, If you want to be certain you get the correct birth certificate, you can order it with the reference I found, and you can give his parent's names as a checking point. That way they will only issue the certificate if the parents are the right ones. If they are not, then you will only lose £3 for the search instead of £7 for the wrong certificate. Kath. x

Yep the marriage was between James Frederick Weightman (my father in law) & Hilda Gladys Hardy (her maiden name) or Hilda Gladys Blount (a previous married name)

Keturah

Keturah Report 27 Oct 2005 22:09

Could i search somewhere under my mother in laws details to find her marriages and go from there? I have one marriage certificate but that is from the previous marriage which was dissolved but that wouldnt be much use in this search i dont think. Ket xx

KathleenBell Report 27 Oct 2005 22:08

Jess, Sorry, thought you were shouting. The marriage in 1980 is the second marriage of Keturah's father in law - James Frederick Weightman, who was born in 1932 (or 1934 as we have now found out). Kath. x

Kathleen - i wasn't, caps lock was on, nothing more. i still cant work out who was married in 1980

Keturah

Keturah Report 27 Oct 2005 22:04

Now its getting stranger. When they both died we couldnt find a marriage certificate but there were members of the family that went to the wedding so it must have happened. James married Hilda Hardy but she had been married before so may have been know as Blount when she married.

I checked the Dec qtr of 1930 to 1935 and that is the only James F. Weightman born in those years, and with the mother's maiden name being correct, I think it would be too much of a coincidence for it not to be your husband's father. Yvonne is right - their is no marriage for James Frederick Weightman in Dec. qtr 1980. Kath. x

Im just looking through that site now. My other half is questioning wether that is his dad with the year, but i had already thought that there maybe a difference on information they were given. Thank you Kath I am also wondering if the date he gave was correct (5th Oct) but that could be right if it is showing in the Dec qrt of 1934
