Hi Lynne, Thanks for your kind offer to take some photos for me,it would be so lovely for my Dad to see how it is now. He lived at the' BUNK' but that is not there anymore. He moved to Andover road in 1938,went to Hornsey school and POOLES PARK SCHOOL,ALSO ALDER SCHOOL. I would be happy with anything in Islington as my Dad grew up there and knew the area well, feel free to take photos of anything in Islington,we would be most grateful. Thanking you kindly Lorraine

Hi Lynda, Thanks so much for trying to locate Red Hill school for me. I did a search on the 1901 for Alfred Percy Atfield, Islington and turned up Alf P Atfield, aged 13, born Middlesex London. PRO, refererence RG13/656 Perhaps I should have gone back a few more pages to establish just where this school/ institution was (have two pages copied) I automatically took it as Islington, hope I'm not going to look like a twit LOL Hope you can work it out for me, Kindest Regards, Kaye.

Hi Lynda, I have just spent the evening traveling around the streets of London on the Internet and I found Thorpdale Rd! Unfortunately it looks like it is just outside Islington, off the Hornsey Road (north of Seven Sisters). So not to worry. I really do appreciate you taking the trouble to look it up and for getting back to me. Lynne

Hi Kaye I have had a look at the previous page, and the school is called The Russell Hill school, an school for orphans, and it says it is a Clerks and Drapers school, although it says Alf was born in London Middlesex, the school is in fact in Beddington Surrey, Which was in the registration district of Croydon, sub district Mitcham. It was situated at Russell Hill Purley. So I'm afraid that is nowhere near Islington. If you put The Russell Hill school Croydon into google a few results come up about the school. Sorry It's not in Islington, and you don't look a twit :)) Lynda

Hi Linda, thanks for the offer of taking photos in Islington. My Gt. Gt. grandparents lived 14 Stanmore Street, don't know if this still exists or near where you are going. Would appreciate a photo if possible. Hope I am not too late. Many thanks, Hilary

Hi Linda, My husband's ancestors were silversmiths who lived at 120 Highbury New Park Islington. I've noticed that a property developer has put a request in this year for planning permission on the house which is in a conservation area so it must still be there. It'd be a big house because they had lots of children and a few servants. I'd be really grateful if you could take a photo of it. Many thanks, Louise

Hi Hilary Just caught me taking a last look at the board. Stanmore street is still there, and I will be walking right past it, not sure how it has been rebuilt though. Do you know what number you were looking for? My best friend lived in that Street, and spent a lot of the 1950's there. Will be happy to take a photo for you, if you can let me know the number and I will try and work out the spot. Just realised you have given me the number, sorry :) Lynda

Hi Lynda, Many thanks for the information on Red Hill School, clever girl. Sounds like I have the right Alfred Atfield, as on his marriage certificate his father was a draper (deceased), but I didn't know he was an orphan so early in his life. Have fun in Islington, taking photos. Kindest Regards, Kaye.

Linda, Thanks for the offer. We wondered whether 120 Highbury New Park was one of the larger set back houses or not. Also interested in 61 Highbury new Park Islington which was owned by the silversmith's son. Louise
