My tree has also gone when I click on my name only my parents are showing, my father tree is not there at all, only three generation of my mothers, my greatgrandmothers I had back to the 1600's. My husbands is not there, They say there is only 280 names there but they are not showing on the treer but that is nowhere like what I had, there are only 2 names listed under my name which is mine and my dads, my paternal grandmothers family names have disppeared completely off the name list. as had others. It was all there last time I visited. I have been with genes reunited since they started. I wrote but got a standard response that did not answer my question, have replied and waiting for a reply.

Hi Irene Sorry to hear that you are having trouble also. I think genes has a Hacker. I have since changed my Password on here and I am now backing the info up every time I log out and Sign out as A safeguard. I have had to rebuild my tree from Just me. I got no joy when I E-mailed them. They said there was only my name in my tree and I had deleted it. I did'nt do It. All you genes users be warned. Maureen

Sorry to hear this Maureen. Ask GenesR for a log of when your Id was used up to when you saw the tree was gone. They might even keep IP addresses too ....

Hi All My daughter's boyfriend Ben has also had his tree removed from the site when he logged on only his name was left in his tree. It had happened just a few days before mine had dissappeared. Maureen

Laird I got no joy at all with them. They told me to search for a name in my tree and If I found one then they might be able to do something. MIGHT. All the names had been deleted so how could I find one. I am still very annoyed. Maureen

Understandably so ...... Just persist - insist they give you the information - and cite the other example.

Laird Every Time I log out now I sign Out. Before I log out I back up. I have made a special Folder on my desktop especially for Genes. I have also made Ben Do the same. He backs his files up now every time he is here. Maureen

Genes could not help me at all. There is no backup for this sort of thing happening. It is up to the individual to keep a backup gedcom file of their tree. I did not know about this until after my tree had been deleted. So be Warned. Maureen

It has taken me best part of a week to get my tree back to some kind of order. I am still adding tree names in. Whenever I manage to grab myself an hour or so. I am adding names in. I ONLY had just over 600 names in. I think by the time that I add and get the rest of my lines in there will be hitting on 1000. It's hard going as most of the info is in files. You cannot keep a good girl down. Lol. Maureen

Thats Fine Elaine I just thought that if someone else's tree had been partially removed also without her knowledge to make people aware of the problem. Someone is Hacking down the trees. Mine was with a chainsaw I think as only I was left. Lol. I can laugh about it now but By god was I upset. Maureen

What this site needs is SMILIES and WINKS to avoid things being mis-interpreted......

Laird The best thing is the date I posted this message was last week. Irene must of seen the message and brought it back up front. When she had Problem. I'm still chipping away at it. It's my fathers line I'll get a headache doing as there is that much info to re apply. I have most of the main lines back in its all the marriages, kids etc that are time consuming Maureen

It does worry me that some people only have their tree on this site. PAF from LDS is a free download and others can be bought from around £30. My GR tree is a combination of three trees, all backed up on another computer (legal) and also on to CD, most of it is also printed off on paper, who says computers don't generate masses of paperwork! Some people don't always log out on public computers so anyone can delete their tree without them knowing until it is too late. Don't rely on GR to keep your tree safe. Ros.

Advise. GO TO IMPORT EXPORT TREE ON LEFT HAND SIDE AND DOWNLOAD GEDCOM TO HARD DRIVE ON COMP. If only I had known about it before it would of saved me a whole load of typing. All the best. Maureen is signing out but not before I have downloaded to Gedcom. Once Bitten Twice Shy Maureen
