Canny Lad Mike. Did you report the tree being wiped out to genes at the time. All I got was a response saying that I must of deleted it by accident. I had never used the Import Export and never tried to upload anything into my genes Tree. Never have logged in at Library or Internet Cafe only on my Home Comp. Why whoever did it is beyond me. Hi Marion Only with a lot of hard work and determination. I have had to fully rebuild my tree. From Scratch. Maureen

Maureen I have spent ages in the past typing my GR tree into my PAF file (free from LDS) ending up getting fed up and making silly mistakes. I saw your comment about the import/export on the left hand side and thought I'd give it ago. 2 mins later all my names & notes are on a new paf file, can't believe I've been a member here for so long and not learnt that! Thank you so much :-)))))))))) Elaine is a happy bunny !! xxx (bet someones had this on a thread before & i've never noticed)

Ros The best thing is I dont use any shared comps In Library's or Elsewhere. I do have the Paf and now I keep it as updated as possible. plus I throw it onto Cd now as a backup Just in case computer crashes. Maureen

Advise. GO TO IMPORT EXPORT TREE ON LEFT HAND SIDE AND DOWNLOAD GEDCOM TO HARD DRIVE ON COMP. If only I had known about it before it would of saved me a whole load of typing. All the best. Maureen is signing out but not before I have downloaded to Gedcom. Once Bitten Twice Shy Maureen

It does worry me that some people only have their tree on this site. PAF from LDS is a free download and others can be bought from around £30. My GR tree is a combination of three trees, all backed up on another computer (legal) and also on to CD, most of it is also printed off on paper, who says computers don't generate masses of paperwork! Some people don't always log out on public computers so anyone can delete their tree without them knowing until it is too late. Don't rely on GR to keep your tree safe. Ros.

Laird The best thing is the date I posted this message was last week. Irene must of seen the message and brought it back up front. When she had Problem. I'm still chipping away at it. It's my fathers line I'll get a headache doing as there is that much info to re apply. I have most of the main lines back in its all the marriages, kids etc that are time consuming Maureen

Thats Fine Elaine I just thought that if someone else's tree had been partially removed also without her knowledge to make people aware of the problem. Someone is Hacking down the trees. Mine was with a chainsaw I think as only I was left. Lol. I can laugh about it now but By god was I upset. Maureen

It has taken me best part of a week to get my tree back to some kind of order. I am still adding tree names in. Whenever I manage to grab myself an hour or so. I am adding names in. I ONLY had just over 600 names in. I think by the time that I add and get the rest of my lines in there will be hitting on 1000. It's hard going as most of the info is in files. You cannot keep a good girl down. Lol. Maureen

Genes could not help me at all. There is no backup for this sort of thing happening. It is up to the individual to keep a backup gedcom file of their tree. I did not know about this until after my tree had been deleted. So be Warned. Maureen

Laird Every Time I log out now I sign Out. Before I log out I back up. I have made a special Folder on my desktop especially for Genes. I have also made Ben Do the same. He backs his files up now every time he is here. Maureen
