Hi Michelle, I'm trying to break one of my brick walls, so am hoping you'll be able to spot James Shearer born circa 1838 on your name index for 1851. His father was also James Shearer. Unfortunately I do not have a birthplace for either person. I am hoping to find him in Lanarkshire as he apparently married in Glasgow in January of 1852 to Mary Irvine born circa 1834 - this date comes from several of the childrens birth records. I have been unable to find this marriage on scotlandspeople or the IGI and wonder if it ever took place as James was probably only 14!! Perhaps you would know where I should look next!! Mary Irvine is dead and James Shearer (jnr) in England in 1881 so they won't be on that census. I am sorry this doesn't give you any decent info to find them in 1851 but I'm clutching at straws somewhat!! I really appreciate you looking but please don't spend too long trying if you can't see these devious, hiding rellies first time!!! Thank you very much, Jenny

Gloria Hi - did you see my reply on my other thread on parish registers, I put some Monumental Inscriptions for Lawcocks in St Bride's Church Douglas on for you to have a look at. Unfortunately I only have the 1851 census name index so sorry haven't got images and can't tell you relationships!! However I always like to give something so have listed all that I found on the two names from the BIVRI and have listed all the Lawcocks/McKerrow's that came up on the 1851 index. The listing with Alexander McKerrow aged 15 living (i Think) with the Dicksons is very interesting to me as James Dickson b 1800c Douglas (parents Walter Dickson and mother Maren Carmichael) is one of my ancestors!! A Helen Dickson from Douglas married a Thomas Sanderson from Walston and they are my great great grandparents!! I am interested in the 1851 Douglas area. Any of the Lawcock family. I am also confused over the McKerrow and Sloan families. I think there is a McKerrow child in a Sloan household listed as grandson. and a McKerrow in a Dickson household listed as son but older siblings are Dicksons. Just cant work it out. If you have the images it would be great to have a look. If not then anything on the McKerrow or Lawcocks would be great. Thanks Gloria Douglas and Glasgow areas
