maybe i got the wrong impression... i have a membership to another site which gives me database access to all births/deaths/marriages from 1984-2002, all i do is put in a name and wait for the results.... magic..... this site i don't think is like that. i guess you have to search within the results.... major rip off.

What else does it offer that's better than FreeBMD? Does it actually find the right person for you (as in the same name that you typed in)? Chloe

CelticShiv Report 17 Jan 2005 17:28

Hiya If you are searching the years 1866 to 1920 then if is fully transcribed and full name searchable - unlike freebmd which is not complete and 1837 which allows you to search by a full name, but doesn't guarantee that they will be on the page. If you are searching the years 1921 to 1983, then these years are NOT complete and only allows you to search by surname. If you are searching the years 1984 - 2002 then this is fully searchable, but you cannot view images of the pages of index. The years 1837 to 1865 are being transcribed so will be coming soon. So if you are looking for an event between 1866-1920 then it is very useful.

is working fine for me. I have been in and out of it constantly since about 5pm. Am very impressed. I have found lots of ancestors I could not find on 1837 and freebmd. Obviously the event is in the year brackets of 1866-1920 otherwise it might be a different story.

Registered OK. Went to purchase some units, entered card details OK, got through the first three screens OK then got a message asking for further verification details - however, there were no buttons or anything on the screen to enable me to proceed! Had to re-log on at the home page, and of course - no units had been credited. So, definitely some teething problems I think.

Hello I am 124, twice I tried yesterday to buy credits and it refused me. So I emailed them, answer was something to do with the area code and state I am in Australia. So I changed details put full state plus Australia. I was accepted printed off the order status which said transaction status success. Continued on Lo and behold it was not accepted. I will be certainly watching my statement account!!! I have emailed them again they were quick last time to reply. I will not try again. Regards Pam

I have had no problems purchasing credits. You get several screens confirming your address, which is part of the barclays bank online payment process. You just have to continue on each screen. I have purchased credits twice now with no problems and am very impressed with it.

Christina Report 19 Jan 2005 05:00

I too have a problem. Managed to join OK, purchased units, it said "Success" then it says declined. No units showing. It seems they need to fix this glitch properly. The site itself seems to be good, but it's only good if it can be accessed. I have tried a search, it finds results but they are not all for the name I entered, anyone else found this? Regards Christina

Hi All Guess what!...I've just had exactly the same prob as Christina, purchased units, said purchase was successful, then back to site and msg saying I was declined by "payment gateway"?!? and no credits on my account!! So where have my card details gone and to who's "gateway"?? Have just e-mailed them and will continue to do so until it's sorted!! Sarah

McDitzy

McDitzy Report 19 Jan 2005 20:44

That's exactly the reply I got! Why don't they just sort it out?!?

Susan Report 19 Jan 2005 20:48

Should have come online and read this yesterday! I assumed that my card had been cancelled by the Halifax (long story - but am having probs getting a new Switch card, so assumed they'd cancelled current card instead of the one that has gone AWOL in the post!!!). Chap in the bank wasn't too impressed with my rage ... and I really didn't believe my card would work until I tried it in cashpoint! S:>

Hello All Just been reading up to page 3 of the replies and i think due to all the problems that everyone is having except Siobhan it seems very suspicious. Unless it is a well known site i would not risk giving out my credit card details to anyone. I sincerely hope that my suspicions are wrong. Regards ALYSON

CelticShiv

CelticShiv Report 19 Jan 2005 22:41

I understand your suspicions, but the site is Valid. There does seem to be some problems with the payment gateway. Which is being dealt with. But I as well as some other people have managed to get on no problems. This site has been highly advertised in family tree magazines and even had an article (I think it was last month's Your Family Tree).

CelticShiv Report 19 Jan 2005 22:47

Christine If you are searching between the year 1921 - 1983 then it is only surname searchable and will bring up the first and last person on the page of the gro index. So that is why the names are not what you entered. The years 1866 - 1920 are completely transcribed and can be searched by full name, so enabling you to get exact matches. They will be having full name search for all other years eventually, but they have not given a date as to when. So this site is only useful if you are looking for an event between 1866 - 1920. regards, Siobhan

Hello All used the site today, no problems for looking between 1866 and 1920, a massive saving on 1837, so eventually will be very useful I think, Helen

I've had no problems. Credits purchased with no hassle and already located two of my 2 x grandfather's deaths that would have cost me a fortune to look for on 1837 as a blanket search Very impressed so far
