I am trying to establish my family tree, but I am serving abroad in the Armed Forces. My Grandfather was born (I believe) in 1896 and died in 1976. He served in the First World War on The Western Front at Amiens and Ypres. He may well have served else where but would not discuss it at all. I understand he was born in Walthamstow. I would be grateful if anyone could help me out with this project, as I would like to find out a little more about my ancestors. Many thanks. Mac McDaniel. |

Name: McDaniel, Charles George Record Type: Marriages Quarter: March Year: 1896 District: Shoreditch County: London Middlesex Volume: 1c Page: 164 Name: McDaniel, George Charles Record Type: Births Quarter: March Year: 1897 District: West Ham County: Essex Greater London Volume: 4a Page: 360 My Geography is awful .... I am presuming the top one is your Grandfathers birth registration ? CAN'T BE ... its a MARRIAGE !!! Oooops ...maybe this is his Dad's Marriage entry ??? ..that would be handy wouldn't it ! You need to send away for his birth certificate, (2nd find ??? maybe) which will give you his parents names, (mothers maiden name as well) this will enable you to find his parents marriage entry. http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ ...you can order certificates online from here. If you have a fair idea of you Grandma's maiden name, then you can search for their marriage entry on the 1837online website. http://www.1837online(.)com .remove brackets Once you have his marriage certificate, it MAY give his Army number which will enable you to apply to the MoD for his Service Records. If his Army number isn't on his Marriage Cert, then try one of his children's birth cert's ...(this is where I accidently found my Grandfathers number!) Good Luck Elaine :-) |
