Hello Lorraine,
Are you still trying to solve this one? I am researching the Peterken family, and I have an Albert H Peterken b 8-2-1901, son of Thomas and Jane, who married a Winifred Conn (1900-1979) in 1923. Two children, a boy and a girl. The boy was another Albert H Peterken, 1925-1945. No further details as these facts put together by studying the GRO records, so the story as outlined by you is very feasable (if rather sad) and sounds as if it may just be the mob you are looking for. And the family were very much Millwall people.
Albert H Peterken senior had 5 sisters and 2 brothers, and I can take you back to the 1600s from there.
My mothers maiden name is Peterken, and I did her tree as a present for her 80th birthday a couple of years ago. Since then the tree keeps growing and growing!
Contact me if you think there is a connection.
Regards,
Denys Murphy
