LONG "LIVE" GENES CONNECTED!! By my reckoning I am the 27th member to vote this way, not that we were asked to vote, but surely our opinions count. *I hope! Any response from you Michelle?

Hi Everyone, as we all pay membership to be on this site(GenesConnected),Genes reunited doesn't sound right so if they change the name lets all form another site, surely there is someone who understands websites who could set up new site. John

Quote from the GC "about us" page "Our ethos We ask our members what they think of an idea before we go ahead with it." Yea - right. So this thread with its peremptory statement of what WILL be happening is complying with their ethos - I don't think so. We might be able to work out our genetic connections, but I doubt many of us can reunite with our genetic ancestors. Come on Mr & Mrs Pankhurst and everyone else at GC - listen to what the users of your site (many of whom pay to use the site) are telling you - LEAVE IT AS GENES CONNECTED

I've never heard anyone refer to this site as Genes Reunited.. these words don't go together as well as Genes Connected. If the administrators don't read these comments, its all been a waste of time and energy...There is a FEEDBACK button at the bottom of the page... Kindred Konnections changed their name to My Trees years ago, I still think of the site as Kindred Konnections. A local supermarket has had several name changes in the past 7 years, I still refer to it as its first name. Genes Connected has already built up a good reputation, I can't imagine why anyone would want to change it. I think changing the name will be confusing to people who have heard of the site and are searching the internet. Diane NSW Australia

Uh oh - the voice from the South Pacific. Is GC employing some pimply faced Marketing /PR officer who has to make a mark somehow???????? (I've been one for a Prime Minister so know how it works!!) Genes Connected was referred to me as a site where I could CONNECT with people of like mind and interest and get help finding where my GENES originated. Make sense?? From Canada, NZ, USA, Australia, Germany, wherever else members are residing, there is little chance of REuniting unless we have already met (unless someone wins a lottery and decides we're all worthy cases for a trip to Mother England) but there is every chance we are going to UNITE on this issue. No-one ever suggested I was reuniting with everyone nor could they! My visits to England were too short and work oriented so there was no chance of finding family! If you're hell bent on changing something for the sake of change then FriendsConnected would be better and make more sense! There are lots of helpful hints from members for improving this site which are practical, helpful, user friendly and would entice new members - for goodness sake listen to your target audience. New ideas/new concepts are doomed to failure unless you consider, consult, communicate and get consensus. Please REconsider. Marlene in the South Pacific

I also agree keep it GENES CONNECTED, Friends Reunited had some bad press a while back and we do not need anyone messing with our fantasitic site where many helpful people help one another to CONNECT to their deceased relatives. I may be reunited when i pass over but i am quite happy just to connect at this moment in time Keep up the good work Genes Connected. Rose Pippard

Why?!!!! I've never heard anyone call it Genes Reunited. That's such a poor excuse for changing it. Keep it the same, we like it the way it is! Amy

Sorry guys, just another complaint about renaming the site ... Whilst realising you are trying to unify the 'Reunited' brand, it really doesn't work for me. Aside from the fact you already have a mature "GC" following in terms of genealogists and that "GC" has become a recognised way of referring to the site/service, it doesn't make sense as an expression. 'Connected' was a much more positive way of referring to the aspirations that we all have. 'Reunited' has rather sick implications, would you really want to be 'reunited' with an ancestor who had been buried for 200 years? I don't think so. I would much prefer you spent the cash on making sure people enter sufficient info (i.e. places) with their ancestors' names than undertake a ridiculous rebranding exercise. Jane

Like Nichola said on my thread.. I've nooooo intention of my ancesters to reunite me from their grave! Well... One or two might help me to find the blasted family, but on the serious note.. What IS the point of changing the name? Nothing wrong with GC at all. Get it back to GC Pleeeeeeeeeease?? T

sorry michelle, but you are wrong. we all refer to this site as gc, and when we are recommending this site to friends and family they will have a problem finding you if you start messing about with the name. friends re united is a completely different thing to this site, i dont think your name change will entice them accross, unless they already have an interest in this sort of thing. and surely we, as MEMBERS should have some say in changes like the one you are proposing ? or am i wrong ? mmmmmmm sue. just realised, you have already changed the name, so no point in complaining is there !

Irene Report 3 Jun 2004 19:33

Perhaps like me you should email GC, sorry but there it is, GC and nothing else will do. The question I have asked is Why Genes reunited when you can't reunite with your ancestors, you can connect with the decendants of these ancestors, but you can't reunite with the decendants of these ancestors if you never knew them. I will let you know if and when I receive a reply. Irene

Please stick with the Genes connected name. Surely to reunite one has to have been together first. How can this be, with relatives from several centuries.? We will always have family connections though.

Light Relief on the subject. My father left home when I was 8 (1948) In later years we found out he was already married with a son. By then my mother had 3 Kids.(Not Married) I went searching in the 80's And would you believe I found him. aged 80 and very happy with his lot. He had remarried a great lass from East Germany. In between times he had a number of relationships. He died aged 84 with a smile on his face. Mum by then had married a great guy from Wales. Who bless him passed on in 1973 . Went on a cruise met a guy from New Jersey U.S.A. Married in 1980. Great guy again but died in 1991. The sum of all this is I have direct and indirect family all around the world. Big Families! By the way mum was an orphan at 5. I am not sure on the debate of GC/RC. Why not "Happy Families" Try sorting my lot out!!! By the way my wife Diana's Family is twice as complicated. Only for "Light Relief" Leon P.S.Mum is still alive and kicking who knows the story could go on
