Robin Report 29 Mar 2004 13:22

Caz No trace of Bemjamin on Christenings/Marriages or 1841/1861 Census Tuxford Notts. I have also checked Rotherham 1871 Index (Which covers Kimberworth), and there are no Hammells there. Benjamins wife comes from Darnall which is Sheffield, so that might be the place to look for a marriage. It looks as though the family might be in Worsbro in 1871

Linda If the decoder is working correctly then these are together on the 1901 census. Gertrude 22 b Wingham, Sarah 28 b Wingham, Mary 37 b Wingham,George 64 b Nottm, Eliza 63 b Beeston. These names fit the 1881 Census. I cannot give you the address from the decoder. There is a marriage of a George Timson to Eliza Bucknall, at Nottm St Peter,21.11.1858 that may fit. I have never heard of Wingham, my guess is Bingham

Susie There are no records of christenings /marriages at Elston other than the marriage you have. Cutts and Thorpe are quite common in Notts. I have checked 1841 and it seems that Elston does not show seperately and would be a very few houses then but the two name do appear Southwell/Newark. I you come up with any individual name. please get back

Hi Robin You have tried to help me once before looking for Richard Clayton, you couldn't because as I have since found out he was born in Greenwich!! I'm now looking for his parents whom I suspect may have been born and married in Notts. BENJAMIN CLAYTON and ELIZABETH BUNTON. I don't know what years, but in 1855 they were married and living in Greenwich and Richard was born that year. I would be grateful for any help you can give Many thanks Christel

Robin

Robin Report 30 Mar 2004 13:53

Christel I nearly missed this one as it is listed as Burtonand perhaps the marriage is too early. Benjamin Clayton married Elizabeth Burton at Nottingham St Marys Church 18th July 1828. There are the following christenings at the same church to a Benjamin and Elizabeth. 21.12.1828 Frances, 1.6.1830 Benjamin,10.10.1832 William Charles. There is a christening at the Mansfield, 11.4.1794 Benjamin with parents James and Betty Clayton. The two Benjamin christenings are the only two listed in the county at any time. There are ony three references to Bunton and none are an Elizabeth. There are a number of possible christenings for Elizabeth Burton depending on any dates you have. I cannot find any of the family on the 1841 Census

Robin I think you could be on to something there, I just had a look at Richard's BC again, and it could be Bu(r)ton!! It would make them a bit old though, unless Elizabeth was much younger than Benjamin (b1794). I'll have a look through my notes again but I have to go out right now, if I may I'll get back to you tomorrow. Thank you so so much Christel

Russell Report 30 Mar 2004 20:11

Thankyou very much Robin. The two families are correct. The 1st marriage is correct but John Wragg married Mary Ann Coupe on 12th May 1845. I was hoping that Joseph Hardwick would be living near as his and Elizabeth Wraggs first child was born in 1863 in Mansfield Woodhouse, possibly illegitimate. Joseph was illegitimate also, his mother was Elizabeth Hardwick and I know very little about that line. Thankyou again Robin

Hi Robin I just joined Ancestry, and on the 1871 Census found a Benjamin Clayton (62) and Elizabeth (61) living in Islington. Elizabeth born in Nottingham :) Benjamin born in Derbyshire :( Could you check those Elizabeth Burton christenings again for me and see if there's one around 1810 please. I'm sure that 1828 marriage IS theirs, they would have been 18 and 19. Thank you soooooooo much Christel

David Report 31 Mar 2004 15:10

Thank you so much Robin. I don't know of any siblings at the moment, so that's something else to work on. My main objective at the moment are the Claytons, so will see if anyone has any Derbyshire records! Thank you again Christel
