Dawn, That is absolutely briliant, it narows down the date of emigration perfectly be post 1881 census pre 1884 birth of child which is what I wanted, but also fills in a lot of gaps. I knew there must have been children since my parents were in touch with Australian second cousins, but had no idea there were so many of them. The Sinclairs are brilliant as well, I knew the main outlines and that there were three children, but didnt know if they survived to marry and have children themselves, so this does indeed hit the spot. Thank you so much you have saved me weeks of slog through records since I have no idea where to look. Must add these to my gc tree in case there are connections. to make. Thank you so much Pam

Hi Sharon, This is want I have found using the info that you have given me.... MARRIAGE:- CHARLES PIZZEY (there was a few Pizzie's but none were a Charles or even a connection...) Spouse:- Agnes Calder Marriage Date:- 23rd of February 1842 Reg State:- 1842 Ref Number:- 1359 It also said that both (Charles & Agnes) were 35 years old, at the time of their marriage. DEATHS:- CHAS PIZZEY Father:- U Mother:- U Age at Death:- 76 Reg Year:- 1881 Death Place:- Belfast Reg State:- Victoria Ref Number:- 6598 AGNES PIZZEY Father:- James Calder Mother:- U Age at Death:- 65 Reg Year:- 1869 Birth Place:- Edin Reg State:- Victoria Ref Number:- 8468 Because the marriage took place in Tasmania, I looked on the 'Colonial Tasmanian Family Links' - http://www(.)pioneers(.)archives(.)tas(.)gov/au.......If you scroll down to the bottom of the home page, you'll see 'search', click on that and it will then take you to the search page for all their vital records, etc. Tap in CHARLES PIZZEY and leave the rest blank. His name will appear, click onto the code (numbers, on the right side of his name) and this will tell you, his name, birth year (1807) and that he married Agnes Calder in Launceston, Tasmania (you can click onto his wife's name, which is in blue and that takes you to her info page), I'm afraid there's no mention of eithers, siblings, parents or any children of their own. I have searched using various surname spellings and no luck, finding any children. I hope this is of any help to you........ Dawn.

Hi Dawn,I would be very grateful if you could help me advance my search for details of my mother,s Great-aunt: I have found her death entered under NSW: Honor(a) McDowell nee Moran died N.Sydney 1927 - she was born in Ennis,Co.Clare emigrating as a young woman , born c.1839 - we think she may have lived in Tasmania first - she probably married after settling - the couple had one daughter Can any more details be traced with this outline ? Thank you for your help : you would not just complete my puzzle but that of my 88yr old mother,Honor. Mary

Hi Mary, I am sorry but I cannot find a marriage or any births, relating to your ancestor, Honor(a) Moran. I did come across one marriage but not to a Mr McDowell......it was:- MARRIAGE - HONORA MORAN Spouse:- Edward Ryan Index Year:- 1865 Reg Year:- 1865 Reg State:- New South Wales Ref Number:- 1004 (No children were found, between this couple....) I also checked up on the 'Colonial Tasmanian Family Links' and she is not on there (it doesn't necessarily mean she never went to Tasmania, as it is not 100% complete...). Do you not know the name of Honor(a)'s child....or Mr McDowell's full name and I'll have another look around for you. Dawn.

Hi Dawn, Thank you so much for trying! Unfortunately I have very little to go on as my mother's details are vague! I suppose a death record of a male McDowell dying before 1900 in North Sydney might be a starting point ,as either of the relatives' death certificates would give the name of the informant (who may turn out to be her daughter.........!) However I know your record only goes up to 1888 and the surnames are rather common. The only other possibility I have wondered about is using (Catholic) parish registers but I have no real chance of tracking these down ! Thanks again,Mary

Hi Dawn, Cpuld you please find my cousins great great grandmother's brother who had been in a brawl and his family took him to a port where he sailed for Australia? Here is what I know: *He was William Hoskins (hoskiss, hodgkiss, hoskin, & variants) *He was born in c1831 *He was born in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire *In 1851 he was still in England *In 1851 he was a General Labourer *He died intestate in Australia. We do not have marriage or death records for him - the above is all we know. ANything you could add to that - even if it is just a 'further line of enquiry' or possible match would be wonderful! :0) If you could help I know my cousin would be very grateful. I don't have access to any Australian Records - but let me know if you ever need a 1891 lookup, as I will be more than happy to return the favour! Take Care- don't worry about it if you are already too inundated with requests. -Kat

Hi Katrina, This one is like trying to find a needle in the haystack...?!?! With so many ways to mis-spell this surname, there's loads of possibilities. Working around the birth year roughly, I have found:- DEATHS:- WILLIAM HOSKINS Father:- U Mother:- U Age at Death:- 30 Birth Place:- Engl Reg Year:- 1857 Reg State:- Victoria Ref Number:- 6787 WILLIAM HODGKISS Sex:- Male Age at Death:- 53 Death Date:- 14th of December 1877 Reg Year:- 1877 Reg State:- Tasmania Ref Number:- 253 WILLIAM HOSKIN Father:- U Mother:- U Age at Death:- 25 Reg Year:- 1858 Reg State:- Victoria Ref Number:- 5812 I can only suggest finding the shipping details, of when and where he travelled to, to pin point who and where he was in Australia. I have had a quick look throu some shipping lists but there are many, shall try again tommorow - my last day of our weeks hols..!!! Here is the web address, so you can have a browse throu and you might even beat me to it...?!? Web Sites for Genealogists http://www(.)coraweb(.)com(.)au/ (Remove the brackets..) Once you are at the home page, look under 'Shipping and Immigration'.....If I stumble across something, I will e-mail you. Wishing you luck. Regards, Dawn.

Hi Dawn, Just a long shot but could you look for a possible "Margaret McDowell" in any entry as daughter of Honora. Date of marriage c1890(Margaret) this is based on some leads I tried to follow a while ago- it would still be North Sydney as a starting point. Many thanks ! Mary

Hi Dawn, Thank you very much for these records: it would be tempting to think that M McD m P Byrnes sounds possible.A good Irish first name ! Now I have used your info. to search the NSW Index on-line and I've come up with at least 7 names so here goes , maybe I'll request certificates, also possible on-line but I'll post a query on the Trying to find board first !
