I think we've not seen any postings from Georgina for a long time. Note the date on the first posting!! It really is a very good idea but seems to have fallen at the first post. Anne

Have just been on Genuki to see the Ted Wildy site - it is not as immediate as this one promises to be, but there are already thousands of records on there. Maybe, as already suggested, there could be some sort of 'merger'? Anyway, I think the idea is brilliant and await further results! Hazel

There is a marriage witnesses index website you might like to know about. It was started by a Ted Wildy. Expect it can be found by googling. Not trying to be awkward - just wouldn't want you to be doing extra work that might have already been done. Maybe the two can somehow be combined? Just a thought. Joy

Only just seen this thread. Sounds a good idea. I mean if they are witnesses they must be either related or good friends so it would be very relevant and interesting to see where they fit in to the picture.

When the new site is fully up and running, I will place notices on this Board - probably under a new thread

I've now found three instances of witnesses marrying each other. Also one case of someone witnessing a marriage then marrying the grooms brother. George

How will we know when your 'witness' site is up and running ? Will it be on the board ? I'm keen to add the marriage witnesses of my great great grandparents - always wondered if they were relatives. Mary Brooke

Hi Georgina, how did you chose your domain and where did you get web space from? My husband is interested!

Hi all, Thanks for all the advice, I had tried pressing all the characters on the keyboard to find this squiggle but couldn't find it. However, I have now got it thanks to Georgina. Shes obviously keen for me to take a look :-))) Bit wary of trying that in case characters moved but they hadn't, I'm getting there!! Thanks all!!!! Sarah

Sarah, If when you type 'shift #' for ~ you get |, try typing the key on the keyboard for |. On most keyboards this is 'shift \', and appears as a two part line, rather than one single line as it appears on screen. I suspect that your computer thinks you've got an American keyboard (there's a setting somewhere in windows to switch this, but I've forgotten where). Good luck........ Ann

Hi, Thanks to all who has sent advice about getting the little squidly thing!! Mine is shown as being above the hash key, however when I press the hash key I get \ and when I try shift and hash | ?? Georgina, tried your advice from the control panel but it just gives options for setting up the keyboard and language which is set to English. And the tip about selecting insert, then symbols, I can't select insert from here. Just tried doing it in a word document, but everythings just gone weird, think its cos hes changed the system from XP to Millenium, but I've just realised all my nice documents I've typed up, all the formattings gone skew wiff, if you know what I mean, all the settings appeared to have changed, so I'm not very happy. Will have a serious word with him tonight about sorting it all out. Thanks anyway!!! Sarah

Hi Georgina, re the email I sent earlier, have now seen your recent messages. I've redone the list and have it stored in Drafts, so will hang on to it there until you advise the new site is up and running. I think it's an excellent to keep them somewhere we can all easily access them. Great idea. Di.
