hi i have just found my dads first cousin i have his address and phone number. dont know if he knows who my dad is. how would you make contact phone or letter? regards Sam

Just a suggestion That means his grandfather is your great grandfather. If you start the conversation by sayibg you are researching that person because you think he MAY be on your tree...... he might volunteer info that would give you a common talking point. If he says that his father had a brother - you are well on the way... Jim

i would send a letter explaining who you are ,why you want to get in contact,and then give a date and time when you will be ringing,its then up to them if they answer the phone.it also gives them time to get the info together.x

i sent a letter to a man i thought could have been my uncle,he rang me the dayhe received the letter to say he was my uncle

Well i took the bull by the horns and i rang. Took me an hour to pluck up courage, very politely explained i was doing my family tree and the connection and he did have an uncle alfred (my grandad) have now finished writting him a letter with dates and copies of certs for proof so hopefully he will tell what he knows...many thanks to all who replied. Sam
