Hi Jenny, I didn't mean that you should look for the record on the IGI - it isn't by any means complete. I meant that you could look on the familysearch site for the address of your nearest LDS Family History Centre and you could go there and order the parish records for Hornchurch on microfilm. It only costs a couple of pounds and the centre will hold on to the film for about a month to give you chance to go and view it. Kath. x

Have you had a look for a possible TOTT Will for John's father? ...or see if you can find any other TOTTs on census born in Hornchurch around the same time, who could possibly be siblings. Maybe one of then married after 1837, so you would have a father's name. It would then be a case of trying to find evidence that John was also his son...not easy but at least you would have a name to work with. Gwyn

Hello, Thanks Brenda, Kath & Sophie for your help & advice. I did find the record that Brenda had for Susannah but had no luck at all for her husband John. Thanks Brenda. Sophie, the marriage entry said of this parish for both John & Susannah. Kath I don't think I could find John on IGI and I'm sure that Hornchurch wasn't included but will go and double check again. Thanks to all three of you for your suggestions. Best wishes Jenny

You would need to look at parish records for the place he was born and look for a baptism. If you don't live near the area you can order parish records from your nearest LDS Family History Centre (addresses on www.familysearch.org) You don't very often get parent's names on a marriage record from that far back. Hello, I have the pallotts index for a marriage entry and have been to the L.M.A to look at the parish register entry. I know the names of the bride, groom & witnesses but where can I find the parents details please? Entry: St Leonard's, Shoreditch, 10 October 1830 John TOTT & Susannah KIDLEY. Entry no 690 ,pg 230. I wanted in particular to find John TOTT's parents. I can't find his birth entry for 1809 Hornchurch from census info. ( I have him on 41,51,61 & 71 he died before 81) and can go no further with his line. I need some advise please. Hoping someone out there can suggest some else. Many thanks Jenny
