My Great grandfather George William Mcarthur DOB abt 1856 in Glasgow Lanark Won the Irish sweepstakes we believe about 1910-1916 he then went to Monte Carlo to play the tables is there any way this can be checked. He might have died there. Wife Eliza Andrews, remarried Robert Lauriston in Edinburgh 1916 she says there that George William Mcarthur is deceased

I think it would be very difficult to find his death in Monte Carlo as you don't know when it occurred. The records would be held by the local town hall, but I don't think they would be prepared to do a long search. Perhaps a search of the Probate Index might be worthwhile. His will, if he left one, and if he didn't lose all his money gambling, may have been proved in England.
