The William who is on 1901 with mother Ellen has a sibling.........and Ellen is supposedly 'married'. Name: Wm Driscoll Age in 1901: 8 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1893 Relation: Son Mother's Name: Ellen Gender: Male Where born: Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales Civil Parish: St Mary Ecclesiastical parish: St Mary County/Island: Glamorgan Country: Wales Registration district: Cardiff Sub-registration district: Central Cardiff ED, institution, or vessel: 25 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 264 Household Members: Name Age Mary Downey 14 Ellen Driscoll 46 Mary Driscoll 2 Wm Driscoll 8 James Whaley 14 Mary Whaley 46 Mary C Whaley 10 Pat Whaley 15 Aged 8 would mean he was born earlier than the registration of JFM 1894.............that child would be 7 in 1901. Thats strange because Williams wife was Mary Ellen, but when i looked at her wedding records it didn't state her middle name.....weird lol. Ok i will try and get hold of his birth certificate then maybe i can get going. Thankyou so much for your help, both yourself and Reg...a pair of stars!!!!. Nicki xx

You would have to buy the birth cert to find that out. However, there is only one William Driscoll in Wales on the 1901 and his mother is called Ellen. They are in Cardiff in lodgings. janice

Hi Janice, Yes that could be the one as i have on my tree estimated birth date at around 1893,and now it's got me thinking because my mum told me once before that his birthday would have been the first quart of the year!!.Was the mother Annie by any chance as i seem to have the name going around in my head. Nicki Report 4 Aug 2007 20:29

Ahhh right ok,of course, that was his real mum's surname...he obviously kept the name,or maybe he wasn't really adopted, but just was sent away,to have been kept out of the way maybe??.OK how would you advise me to try and find his real dad etc,if he wasn't on the birth records it would be hard to find him - or would it be better just to leave it as a no go??. Lol why did i ever start this?????

ErikaH Report 4 Aug 2007 20:20

If he was illegitimate, he would have been registered with his mother's surname...........unless the father went with her to register the birth Reg

Hi, At the time i think he was a Driscoll but what i've been told is that because of what 'went on' he was adopted, and thats how he got the surname Davies, this is where i am stuck because no-one knows his adoptive parents they only know that his real father was a Driscoll....head work isn't it??? Nicki.

Hi i'm trying to find anything to do with the Driscoll family in Newport, all i know is at the time they owned a jewelers shop in Cardiff. My great great grandad was an illigitimate son of theirs, his name was William born (c1893 and married Mary Burns). Could somebody be so kind as to tell me how to go about finding his roots,as i'm kind of stuck as to where to go first :o( Many thanks in advance, Nicki.
