If Thomas Storey was Sir Thomas, and was the son of Isaac Storey, he died 13/12/1898 in Lancaster (his obituary is in the Times). This gives you enough info to look for a will in the Probate Index, or to just apply to York -Google for address. It will cost £5, whether he left a will or not, and you will get a copy of the will for this if he left one. For Phoebe, you need to go through marriages and deaths from 1901 onwards. You can't apply for her will if you don't know when she died!

I think you need to find Thomas's death first although if you have no idea when the death was it will be difficult as there are hundreds of deaths for that name. Kath. x

I wonder if I should try the Will of her uncle first this may give me info on her. Then again I dont know his death date either. Thomas Storey b1826 in Bardsea. Also I dont really understand anything about wills even though the info on this site helped I dont know what any of it means. Can anyone help in Laymans terms?

I think you would have to have at least a rough idea of death date. Just because someone doesn't remember her marrying, doesn't mean she didn't. Have you looked for a possible marriage? In the birth index her name is spelt Phebe. Dec. qtr. 1867, Lancaster, 8e, 601. Isaac is on the same page. Kath. x

I have checked the death index for 1931, 1932, 1933, 1934 and 1935 and the only death in those five years for a Phoebe Storey is in 1932 but for a 38 year old in Houghton (which would be too young to be yours). Kath. x

Sorry - this site is on a go slow today! I can't get the old threads either. If you go to your homepage on this site and look down at the bottom right hand corner of the page there is quite a lot of info that will help you. Good luck! anne

I did this and there were no threads at all. Thanks for the tip though Kaz

Anne Report 3 Aug 2007 14:53

Yes it is possible. You can obtain a copy of any will from 1858 onwards for £5. If you put 'wills' into the search box immediately above the threads list you will get lots of hints. Anne
