Hi Janice, No I don't have my parents marriage certificate because I know when they married and when the were born and everything. I know their parents names and remember both sets of grandparents well. I do however have me grandmothers marriage certificate, she married in Dundee in 1903. This is the one that came from Ireland!!! How I wish I had asked question, however i don't know if my mother would have been able to answer them as she put the wrong parents names on my grandmother death certificate when she registered the death. Hi Betty, I think your Scottish records are fantastic once you get into them! The closure rules are frustrating aren't they? The marriage certs have all parents' details and even when and where they married unlike our English ones. Have you got your parents' marriage cert? Doesn't it give details of her parents? Janice

Hi Janice, I have Kenneth's mobile number, will phone him, not sure if he will ask after the funeral but he can get their phone numbers and contact them later in a week or two. Got the information you sent in PM, thank you, really appreciate all your help. I wish I could do that with Scottish records but ours don't go anywhere as far ahead as English records. My mother and father died but I was lucky I did know their dates of birth and marriage details etc. Pity I hadn't checked on my grandmothers from Ireland but then I was only 11 years old when she died, never have found out where she came from in Ireland. Have sent you death details. If he's feeling brave think he needs to ask family some searching questions. Are you able to let him know what you have found out? Is Kenneth in contact with his brothers? Janice

Hi Janice, Yes at the funeral of his uncle will be his aunt (the widow) also another aunt on his fathers side of the family too, maybe even more relatives, some are in Italy but I don't know if they will travel for the funeral but they have delayed the funeral until next Monday so maybe they will be there too. Just looking for siblings for Kenneth. There's a Vincent J born Q4 1955 mother's maiden names is typed as Tones but it is probably the right family as it ties in so well with the marriage. Do you know any of the names of the brothers/sisters? Janice

Hi Janice, No I don't know the names of the other children but now you have given me this great start I will find out next week. Kenneth is actually at a funeral as his uncle died this week in Liverpool, so I will check things out next week when he comes back. I think Kenneth had two brothers. Betty

Hi again Janice, I think several of the sons were born between the marriage date and about 1962, then a gap of 4 years before Kenneth was born. Betty

Hi Betty, 1954 to 1966 is only 12 years. Was this a 2nd marriage for James? Janice

Hi Janice, I think they were all quite a bit older than Kenneth, as I said I think he was a later baby than the rest of them. They may even have been married by the time the mother died as there was a gap in their ages between them and Kenneth. Betty

Janice Report 3 Aug 2007 09:37

That would make some sense. What happened to the other children, do you know?

Hi Janice, Just remembered something, I was also told his mother was in hospital for a long time before she died, maybe that would explain it, well maybe! Betty

Hi Janice, Sorry about this, I am not sure now!! This is all hearsay, passed onto me, I can't be 100% sure of this. Betty

This is raising more questions than answers lol! There are very few people with that surname so it would be safe to assume that the marriage I found is the right one, especially as the groom is James and you thought that was his name. The place is correct too. However, unless there are two other people with the same names in the same place and of the same age, then they didn't die until Kenneth was in his 20s. Wonder if mum was ill and couldn't cope with another child so he was brought up by his aunt. What do you think? Janice

♥Betty Boo from Dundee♥ Report 3 Aug 2007 09:26

Hi Janice, I am not really sure about who died first father or mother really, I just know Kenneth was looked after by an aunt. So maybe the two you found could be correct!! Betty

Janice

Janice Report 3 Aug 2007 09:24

But Kenneth would be an adult when these two died. Are you sure his parents were dead?

Janice

Janice Report 3 Aug 2007 09:18

Hi Betty, If that's the correct James, he's a twin! Q3 1924 James Alfred and Joan E mother's maiden name Croft
