Trying to find Bulman

Alice Bulman was my great grandmother. Recorded twice in the census & also on her marriage certificate as born in Liverpool in 1838 or 1839. Her father was Joseph Bulman, a seaman. I can't find her in IGI or GRO, and the Liverpool Register Office won't look unless I give them the year & quarter as recorded in the GRO (where she isn't listed!). Alice first married Mr Thornton with whom she had a son. After Mr Thornton died she married my great grandfather Peter Leach of Bradford. Their marriage certificate records her as Alice Thornton, Widow, daughter of Joseph Bulman deceased. One of their children was my grandmother, Jessie Ann Leach, born in Middlesbrough. Jessie Ann's birth certificate lists her mother as Alice Leach, formerly Thornton, Any help will be most welcome and appreciated.
