Trying to find Taylor

I am trying to find out anything about my GG grandfather, Alfred Taylor. He was allegedly married to Mary Bayes. He was listed as deceased Master Mariner on his daughters birth certificate of Jan 1878, so presumably died between April 1877 & Jan 1878. Cannot find any trace of marriage or death; but there was an Alfred Taylor, Mariner, living in Rochester, Kent at 1881 census. Anyone out there have any more info on this family; might it be the same person, know it's a long shot, but you never know? regards, Becky
